Researching Private Schools in Canada

"We learned diligence and attention to detail when picking a school pay off."
— Vera Frantisak, parent and Reflections contributor

Many parents who are concerned about the educational well-being of their children are considering private and independent schools. If you're one of them, you're in the right place. Our Kids has been covering private schools, independent and boarding schools for over ten years.

Choosing a private school for your child involves more than collecting facts and figures and weighing pros and cons. It's also about hearing from people like you and your child — parents and students. It's getting a glimpse inside the schools at their activities, programs, services, philosophies, teachers and more.

This section is jam-packed with information you'll want to know to find the best school fit for your child and your family. Learn about the following:

If you are an international student we have an overview of links to helpful information for students coming to Canada from countries like China, Japan and Mexico.

We also have exclusive video of many of the schools, allowing you to go inside a school and see teachers and administrators in action. We’re glad to have you here, so come in, take a look around and learn all you need to know.

Ourkids.net is your complete information resource for information about and listings of private schools.

Questions
from Parents
  • Why is there no information on private school ratings? When I clicked on your site it said "ratings" after which your site says "we shy away" from rating a particular school. Which is it? Actually I don't think its comparing apples and oranges and if I would consider spending my money on private education I would at least like to feel I made the right decision.
  • Is there a cost for each application?
  • What questions should I ask?
