RMS was founded in 1969, placing it within the first cohort of Montessori schools in the country. As with those of its vintage, RMS has a long reputation for providing a quality program, one that has a high fidelity with the core aspects of the method. For over two decades, Tiffany Goulding has been committed to providing quality Montessori education at North Star Montessori. She is passionate about working with teachers, parents, and students to continue building a supportive and inclusive community, and an enriched educational experience at all levels of school programming.
Ms. Goulding relocated to Vancouver in 1999 to complete her AMI Montessori training. She was hired at North Star in 2002 and in 2004 accepted the position as Head of School while still maintaining the Head Teacher position. As enrolment grew and North Star expanded under her direction, she dedicated herself full-time to the Head of School position in 2009.
Ms. Goulding is a life-long learner. She enthusiastically pursues opportunities to learn and grow through on-going professional development and community collaboration. She has been part of several of Ministry of Education External Evaluation Committees and is an advisor to the North Star Board of Directors. Through her leadership roles in the greater Montessori community, Ms. Goulding has made significant contributions at both the local and national levels.

Progressive (sometimes called "in- quiry-based") curricula attempt to place children's interests and ideas at the heart of the learning experience. Rowntree students are prepared to fully engage in school life. Positive attitude, varied interests, respect for themselves and others, and academic capability are amongst the most important attributes for students and their families to bring to RMS. While the school has a strong focus on “STEM” (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) oriented classes and activities, Rowntree is also well known for its vibrant arts and athletics programs, and community involvement.

Rowntree Montessori School challenges its students towards Academic Excellence while developing the whole-child. We welcome all student applications regardless of academic level, learning styles or previous private school attendance.
We do not administer entrance exams, however, through the Admissions process, each student will be assessed through one or more of the following in order for the school to make an informed Admissions decision: observation, interview, more formal assessment and report cards, where appropriate.
