Fieldstone School ADMISSIONS

Throughout my admissions process into Fieldstone I felt that they really cared about me as a person. During the admission process, I did go through testing however, it wasn’t a process of elimination to see who was the smartest but I felt like it was done to assess the level of the new students to best accommodate them into their new learning environment. To me this was everything because I came from a public school that didn’t have the resources or time to ensure that my level of learning was the same as everybody else. There was also an interview to see what I was interested in as a student, and the goals I had previously set for myself. Fieldstone, took my level of learning and allowed me to catch up and even get ahead!

When I did my admissions, I was eleven. My advice to someone that is applying is to not freak out because it is a very calm process. It is also good to maintain an open mind and show that you care deeply about your education and that you have passions outside of that. Remain courteous and respectful. My experience with applying for admission was very relaxed because the admissions officers worked with me a lot to find out if I was a good fit for the school. They gave me the opportunity to express myself and I was given a wonderful tour of the school. I will always remember how welcomed they made me feel and how they helped me to understand more about the school.

Personally, I applied because of the appeal of the Cambridge program, and that is most definitely a selling point of the school. From my conversation with the admissions officer, I felt like the school was helpful in making sure I was going into an environment that was the right fit for me. I knew I could definitely count on support while applying, and I realized coming in how welcoming they were when they introduced me to the city during orientation, given that I was new to the country. They actively and thoroughly look into your previous academic records to ensure your viability for the level of rigor you are to encounter within the school. Their commitment to success was evident from the start, which made me realize that I was coming to the right place.

I would advise interested parents to do a day-trial. We (and our child more importantly) were at first not sure whether our child could get used to the uniforms and the structured learning but she came home that very day of the trial, and said she would like to go back the very next day! She has never looked back even though she loved her old school, she discovered this one is different and she enjoys it TONS MORE. This was a good lesson for her, as we can now more easily encourage her to explore options and try new things.

I remember my first School tour, I really like the welcome from them, we had a nice tour and we love it, we also received the detailed information and we heard about the benefits of the Cambridge program, which I really liked since, I loved that they weren't pushy or forcing me to decide right away, it was super comfortable to deal with the decisions, and the school board of Directors is the best since. then. They made sure that Sofia really likes the school before we jumped into the enrolment process, then when she felt that Fieldstone was the right fit, they were so helpful with the whole process. I really love and appreciate the Fieldstone Family, and their amazing job in the middle of a pandemic. We couldn't do this past two years if it wasn't because of their supportive and brave team of teachers.

I think a majority of the student population of the school are international students, and the school does actively look into bringing international students. From those I've talked to from other schools, that wasn't necessarily the case at their schools. But what opened my eyes was the fact that the school was so open to having people from different countries come in and help broaden the community in terms of the culture, in terms of the different viewpoints that are being offered. I think that was something that I think the school did well in terms of the fact that they were so willing to bring in all those new students who were just moving to Canada and helped them adapt to the country. I think that really helped those coming in. I think that's the same position that the school took with other students as well.

The school is well run by the administrative leaders, who are very approachable, responsive and you will see them around all the time - so very accessible. Right from the one-day trial and the discussion with Ms. Butcher, we had confidence that we had made the right choice, and after a successful year, we can confirm that we feel so lucky we chose to come here! The leaders are very thoughtful, and considerate, and you can approach them about virtually anything - they are so kind and helpful.
