(5) Overall Experience
Attending Leonardo da Vinci Academy from grades 1 to 3 was a formative experience that still shapes my success in high school. The blend of Montessori methods with the Ontario curriculum encouraged independence, curiosity, and strong academic habits early on. Small class sizes meant teachers truly knew me, challenged me, and supported my growth. Their guidance built my confidence in math, reading, and problem-solving. Because of that foundation, I transitioned smoothly into later grades and now maintain a 90s average in high school. I credit the school’s nurturing environment, personalized attention, and dedicated teachers for helping me develop discipline, critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning that continues to drive my achievements today. I remain grateful for those early years and the lasting impact. Thank you!
Looking Back
The care all teachers took with every student. The great intramural sports and outstanding languages (French and Italian - I currently have 100% in high school French).
Current Perspective
I did not realize just how much small class sizes benefit learning and understanding. Being able to have teachers know what I needed when I was at an early stage of learning played a huge part in my academic success.
Your Advice
Some say that small class sizes hinder social development, but that's not even close; I excel academically and in social areas. Such as team sports, leading the school play, and being a member of DECA. Feeling confident at such a young age because of the instruction I received at LDVA led to so many great things.
(4) School Leadership
At the time, I thought administration was tough, but I now understand that to run a school effectively, policies and procedures must be in place. I have heard that recently there is a new administration, and I was delighted to hear that it's a great teacher who has been there forever.
(5) Teaching
Mrs. Lobo was incredible, so caring and knowledgeable. I was challenged daily, lessons were presented clearly and follow-up work with choices made for growing independence.
(5) Academics
Combining the Montessori Method with traditional learning is a significant strength. Everyone learns differently, and LDVA encourages this. What I learned in grade 2, I later did in grade 7! I was so prepared.
(4) Extracurriculars
Mr.Jewell put together an amazing sports program. We didn't play a lot of other schools, but that was ok for me since I did my own sports outside of school.
(4.5) Students
There were students at varying learning stages. Kindness and inclusivity were very much present. There were many Italian families, but not everyone; it was a great mix!
(5) School Life
I really enjoyed going every day, and so did the other students. The teachers planned so many special events and even just made day-to-day learning fun with experiments and challenges
(4) Community
I don't really know, I have moved a little away from the school, so I am not too sure about the alumni community. I do remember former students visiting often because they loved to see their old teachers.
(4) School Location
I believe the school has moved to a new location with brand new outdoor and indoor facilities. I loved the previous space and community. I can't speak much to the new location. But I do know the majority of teachers remained.
(5) Admissions
I was a little nervous, but mostly excited. I immediately felt welcomed to the school. I was able to visit the school ahead of time, also.
