Highlights from the Q&A discussion
Chloe — student
One of my favourite memories in the Montessori program would be the caravan, the winter fest and harvest fest, because we get together with the whole school and all the families to just have fun.
In the Montessori program, I discovered new talents when teachers brought in knitting supplies and taught us different ways of knitting. I even got to dance on stage once or twice during the winter carnival.
The best thing about my Montessori teachers is that if you ever needed anything, they would always help or find what you needed for a project.
One thing I wish people knew about HSC is all the amazing after-school activities we have, because there are so many choices every day.
Joe — student
In Grade 4, the most fun thing I did was gym class, because I always got to run around, be active, and let loose a little, too.
In Grade 4, my favourite subject was social studies because I love learning about world history, ancient civilizations, and architecture.
I made about three close friends this year, and they’re special because they always care for me, share with me, and are really kind.
I think people should know that our head of college, Mr. Ayotte, is really nice and very caring.

What I’ll miss the most after graduating is definitely the HSC community. I’ve made a lot of really good connections with students and especially with teachers, some of whom I still visit from years ago. HSC has also given me so many opportunities to fully flourish as myself.
As a lifer, I feel that every part of the school has helped me grow. From the start in Montessori, I learned empathy and leadership, and HSC has helped me become my own person while also teaching good values.
One teacher who really made a difference for me was my rugby coach and physical education teacher, Ms. Mancini. She has helped me grow into myself, gain confidence, and has always been a major support.
I wish more people knew how much effort and care the teachers and staff put into making this such a great environment for students.
Aneesh — student
My favourite activity in Grade 8 was joining the soccer team at the beginning of the year. I’ve played soccer for a long time, and I loved the chance to keep playing here and to look forward to even higher competition in high school.
As a new student in Grade 8, I’m proud that I adapted quickly. When we went to Camp Timberlane in the second week of school, I really connected with teachers and peers, and it opened my mind to how amazing HSC can be.
My advice to a new student would be to have a growth mindset and try new things. It’s important to experiment and connect with the community when you’re starting out.
I love the lunches at HSC. I’m really happy that we get provided with such amazing food by the incredible lunch staff.
