Comments from students and parents emphasize the wide array of extracurricular activities available at Hudson College, ranging from sports to arts and numerous clubs, ensuring there is something for every interest.
At Hudson College we had anything you could imagine. Anything you wanted to do, you could do, which was just great. I was a little bit worried, coming from such a large school—with a bunch of sports teams and a bunch of club opportunities—that I would be missing out on some of that, but I didn’t miss out on any of that at all. I ended up becoming more involved in the school once I got to Hudson College, and there were more opportunities than I ever had before.
We have a beautiful new artificial turf field out the back. … We belong to the [Small Schools Athletic Federation], as do many schools throughout Toronto. Continued growth in athletics would be our goal [in athletics]: to continue to evolve.
Hudson College’s goals in terms of school improvement are usually in terms of [curriculum]. … For example, Hudson College has a lot of budding scientists. We actively promote a very rigorous science curriculum. We want it to be extremely hands-on and experiential because we think students learn scientific principles best that way. I could see us hopefully developing larger robotics teams one day because we do robotics with them when they’re young.
Robotics, cooking, chess, languages - essentially if there is an interest in the club - the school will create it. The school sports teams compete (and are competitive) against other small independent schools. Skiing, basketball, skating, martial arts, volleyball etc all are offered. If you are looking for your child to be exposed to a wide range of sports and activities this school is ideal. If you have an elite athlete than these teams are not the place. Participation, athleticism, sportsmanship and skills are equally emphasized - with a healthy dose for the desire to win.
This is probably my daughter's favorite part of Hudson College- the extracurricular opportunities. This year she is learning to code and to cook, she has joined in extra sports (skiing, indoor soccer, ball hockey) and she gets to make friends across the grades. In the past, she's learnt chess and robotics. It does mean she has to be extra-focused to get her homework done, but she absolutely loves this part of her school life. Another wonderful opportunity is the annual trip to Camp Muskoka for Grades 4,5, and 6. They spend four days in a beautiful outdoor environment learning independence and important life skills, having tons of fun and bonding like crazy! Grades 7 and 8 attend Camp Wanakita earlier in the term.
There are many extracurriculars offered. One of the biggest clubs is the Duke of Edinburgh award, which all the grade 9 students are automatically signed up for, but any student can participate in. I’m really glad I decided to join, because it is helping my volunteer hours as well as being something I am excited to add to my resume. I am part of the dance club this year, and even though there aren’t many people, I’ve really had fun performing for the school with my dance club friends. Dance club didn’t really take off until this year, and I’m glad to be part of it. If you don’t see a club you want to join, you can always start one. Athletics are also a big part of Hudson, and joining a team is a positive way to step out of your comfort zone and meet more people.

Hudson College offers a wide range of extracurriculars from the Arts, like Drama Club, Dance Club, and Art Club. In addition, there are clubs like Yearbook, Prom Committee, and Student Council. Then there are our sports. We offer a wide variety of sports from hockey, to soccer, to golf and everything in between. Also, if there isn't a club that you think should be available, you can talk to the principal about getting it created.

Hudson has a great range of extracurricular opportunities to appeal to all sorts of kids' interests -- from overnight camp at the beginning of the year; to sports teams all year long; ski trips, clubs that teach skills, raise funds or engage kids in social responsibility; and a nice mix of cultural activities like school plays and musical performances. There's something for everyone!
I really loved the extracurricular opportunities here at Hudson, in elementary and in high school. I found that I was really able to express myself with the clubs that I was apart of and felt supported whether I was in a club or a sport. There many clubs to choose from, and a lot of sports teams to be a part of depending on the season, like the play in elementary, drama club, dance club, yearbook and photography, cooking club, Hudson heroes, things like scientist club, badminton, ultimate frisbee, soccer, etc. As I mentioned previously, even if there wasn't a club you were interested in, you were always encouraged to start your own club, if there was enough interest. Only some clubs were competitive when it came to availability and the sports teams were more competitive since there were a limited amount of spots available but overall in was open to anyone. I felt that I had a lot of fun and could really express myself. They will also let you know what day the club is and if it's at lunch or after school and they were pretty good about scheduling and rescheduling if necessary.
