Opportunities are diverse and enriching.

Comments from students and parents emphasize the wide array of extracurricular activities available at Hudson College, ranging from sports to arts and numerous clubs, ensuring there is something for every interest.

At Hudson College we had anything you could imagine. Anything you wanted to do, you could do, which was just great. I was a little bit worried, coming from such a large school—with a bunch of sports teams and a bunch of club opportunities—that I would be missing out on some of that, but I didn’t miss out on any of that at all. I ended up becoming more involved in the school once I got to Hudson College, and there were more opportunities than I ever had before.
We have a beautiful new artificial turf field out the back. … We belong to the [Small Schools Athletic Federation], as do many schools throughout Toronto. Continued growth in athletics would be our goal [in athletics]: to continue to evolve.
Hudson College’s goals in terms of school improvement are usually in terms of [curriculum]. … For example, Hudson College has a lot of budding scientists. We actively promote a very rigorous science curriculum. We want it to be extremely hands-on and experiential because we think students learn scientific principles best that way. I could see us hopefully developing larger robotics teams one day because we do robotics with them when they’re young.

Activities reinforce the support and engagement of the school community.

Insights from the school community emphasize how Hudson College fosters a positive and inclusive atmosphere where students feel supported and are encouraged to be themselves.

At a school like Hudson where you know everyone—and all the staff and teachers are just super friendly, and they want to get to know you too—it’s super easy to get involved. That’s something that has impacted me greatly, and I definitely think the staff were a big part of it.
One of the things that I appreciated within the school is how easy it was to be notified about different clubs and different events. Stepping away from school and having a year in a university, I don't get as many notifications of clubs or different things. To get involved with the students and get involved with the community, that's not nearly as much broadcasted to the general population of university students. Whereas within Hudson College, it was very much everyone would know that a certain event was going on and if anyone was interested, you'd be able to join and you would feel welcome in that regard.
A big motto of Hudson College is ‘be yourself,’ and I definitely saw that a lot. Through the clubs and the classes, there were so many opportunities to do what you wanted to do, and there was no being forced to do a certain thing, or take a certain class. It was very up to you. If there was something that you desired to do, you could start a club to do it. I found that the teachers in the Hudson College community really inspired you to be you and to find what you liked and what you enjoyed, and to just carry that with you after you graduate.

The teaching faculty are dedicated and accessible.

Insights from students point to the dedicated and accessible teachers at Hudson College, who not only strive for academic excellence but also provide extra help and support through various initiatives.

I know a couple teachers who are always staying after school, in activities like Math Café, where students can get math help after school or study for math competitions. My teachers are nice, and some are really funny. They are also very organized, and everything from PowerPoints to daily class notes are available on their Google classroom or personalized website.
My daughter has really enjoyed the different approaches each teacher has brought to the curriculum: one teacher was really into sports and technology, using those to bring science and other subjects to life. Another was really into art and drama, and each year got the kids involved in the annual school play. My daughter wasn't happy with the idea of being on stage last year, so was involved in back-stage work, which she enjoyed. This year, she'd like to audition for the play. Big step forward in confidence! This year, her grade teacher has created tribes, and uses those tribal loyalties to motivate the kids to focus on improving their homework, team-work, attention skills. Great bonding moments in the class! The teachers are very enthusiastic, full of ideas, and always happy to talk to parents. We get an email at the end of each day from her grade teacher, telling us of any general class info, plus the homework for that day.
