Financial assistance is a cornerstone of our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible education. Through tuition and program assistance, we support families who need extra help with costs, and our merit-based scholarships encourage and reward students who demonstrate exceptional academic, artistic, and athletic achievements. The Bishop Strachan School allocated $2.1 million in financial assistance for the 2022-23 school year. Merit-Based Financial Assistance

The Edward S. Rogers Family Scholarship (Other)
Eligibility Details:
Students from Gr. 9 to 12 are eligible.
This renewable scholarship is awarded to up to six (6) Senior School (Grades 9 - 12) students (Rogers Scholars) based on their academic performance and contributions as engaged members at BSS or their previous school, demonstrated by traits of the Signature of a BSS Girl and participation in co-curricular activities, clubs, sports, teams, leadership positions, etc.
Each applicant must submit a proposal letter, clearly outlining:
- Why the applicant is applying
- The opportunities the scholarship will provide the applicant
- The goals and ideas the applicant has about how to contribute to the BSS community
Additional information about the applicant based on the scholarship criteria (i.e. leadership or service activity or involvement, awards, certificates, honours, transcript from their current school) must accompany the proposal letter.
Applicants must have a strong academic standing (at BSS or their previous school), achieving proficiency standing of 80% or above.
Letters of recommendation are welcome.

Grade 7 Merit Entrance Scholarship (Other)
Eligibility Details:
Students from Gr. 7 are eligible.
This scholarship is awarded annually to the top new students entering Grade 7 based on current report cards and proposal letter.
Applicants must submit a proposal letter (500 words or less) indicating her intent to apply, including:
- Why the applicant is applying
- What this scholarship would mean to the applicant
- An outline of their goals and how they intend to be an active member of the BSS community

Foundation Entrance Arts Scholarship (Other)
Eligibility Details:
Students from Gr. 7 to 9 are eligible.
This scholarship is awarded to a new student who is entering either Grade 7 or 9 and who excels in any area of the arts, including fine arts, dance, drama or music.
Applicants must submit:
- A portfolio that reflects any honours or awards specific to the applicant's area of involvement in the arts, as well as experience, training, years of involvement and other interests in the arts
- A one-page personal profile of achievements that includes goals and ideas of how to actively share their arts skills within the school community
- Two (2) letters of recommendation, one from an arts teacher at the applicant's current school
- An audio, video, or visual presentation of work in their area of involvement in the arts.
Please note that finalists may be asked to attend an interview or audition.

Grade 9 21st Century Entrance Scholarship (Other)
Eligibility Details:
Students from Gr. 9 are eligible.
This scholarship is awarded to a new student who is applying to Grade 9. Applicants should have a strong academic background with an interest in academics, arts or athletics, and require financial assistance.
Each applicant is required to submit:
- Two (2) letters of recommendation, focusing on what makes the applicant a strong candidate, such as qualities, experiences, and potential in her specific area of interest, from the following:
- A teacher, coach or individual who has been directly involved with instruction in the applicant's area of expertise
- Anyone (not a close relation) who is knowledgeable of the applicant’s accomplishments or achievements
- A proposal letter (700 words or less) that outlines:
- Honours, awards, experience, training and/or years of involvement in their specific area of interest
- An outline of their goals and intentions to use this opportunity to contribute to the BSS community
- Other interests as applicable
- An application to Apple Financial Services. Applications must be submitted at the same time as the BSS application to be completed by the February offer date.
- Applicants whose area of interest is in the arts must also submit a portfolio, including visual, audio or video examples of work completed.
Applicants will be required to complete the academic assessment administered during the admissions process. Please note that the results of the assessments are the property of BSS and will not be released to participating students or parents.

Eligibility Details:
Students from Gr. 3 are eligible.
This scholarship is awarded to the top academic student entering Grade 3, as demonstrated by current report cards and admissions interview criteria.

The John C. Rykert Memorial Scholarship (Other)
Eligibility Details:
Students from Gr. JK to 12 are eligible.
This scholarship is awarded to a new or returning student, with preference given to the daughter or granddaughter of a BSS Old Girl.
Each applicant must submit a proposal letter (no more than 500 words) that clearly states:
- Why the applicant is applying
- The opportunities the scholarship will provide the applicant
- The goals and ideas the applicant has about how to contribute to the BSS community
Submission of additional information about the applicant based on the scholarship criteria may accompany the proposal letter (i.e. Old Girl connection, service actions or involvement, leadership).
Letters of recommendation from relevant sources are welcome but not required.
