"The Linsly School has successfully educated and shaped the lives of thousands of students. The family-like atmosphere at our school helps students grow and develop under the guidance of faculty members who know them by name and care about their future. Our strong academic program provides students with an emphasis on foundational skills, a challenging college preparatory curriculum, and a commitment to lifelong learning necessary for success in college and beyond."
One of the strongest aspects of The Linsly School is the that it intentionally develops meaningful relationships between students and faculty. At Linsly, teachers become mentors, advisors, coaches and trusted adults who know students personally. The small class sizes will allow teachers to know students individually. This gives teachers the opportunity to interact with students every day, understand their strengths and challengers and individualize attention.
Linsly emphasizes that its teachers are interested in the overall development of their students, including character, confidence, leadership and personal growth.

Linsly was founded in 1814 when Noah Linsly left resources in his will to establish a school in Wheeling. His vision was to provide education for young people and to serve the community.
Linsly's current emphasis on education, character, service and leadership can be traced directly to this founding purpose.
In 1877, the school became Linsly Military Institute, adopting the structure discipline, and traditions of a military academy. Although Linsly is no longer a military academy, this era left a legacy of self-discipline, leadership, accountability and tradition.
Linsly eventually moved to its current campus around 1928 where it has continued to develop for nearly a century. Today's 57-acre campus, with academics, athletics, arts, residential life, and faculty housing integrated together, helps create the close-knit community that is central to the Linsly experience.
Students who tend to thrive at Linsly are curious and motivated learners. Students do not have to be the top student at their current school, but they should be willing to work hard, ask questions, and challenge themselves academically. They should be students who are willing to step outside of their comfort zones, whether it is trying a new sport, joining a club, or taking a leadership role, Linsly rewards students who are willing to try.
Linsly also looks for students who value relationships. Students who appreciate getting to know teachers, coaches, advisors, and classmates can thrive here. Because Linsly emphasizes academics, athletics, arts, clubs, leadership and service, the best fit student is willing to get involved rather than simply attend classes.
Linsly might advise a family to consider another school if their student is unwilling to be challenged academically. Linsly is rigorous, and students need to be willing to put in consistent effort and accept academic support when needed.
Linsly has clear expectational for academics, conduct, attendance, and participation. A student who consistently pushes against those expectations may struggle.
Linsly places considerable value on athletics, activities, clubs, service, leadership, and community life. A student who wants to simply attend classes and go home, may not get the full benefit of the experience.
Families often choose Linsly over other schools because they see a combination of academic challenge, personal attention, community, athletics, and character development all in one place.
Parents know that their child will be know. Linsly's small size allows teachers, coaches, advisors, and dorm parents to know students personally. They know that their child will be challenged academically, but they can also count on the teachers to be invested in them as individuals, not just focused on grades and test scores.
Families often find that Linsly offers much more than a place to sleep for boarding students. Students live withing a community where faculty and students interact outside the classroom which accelerates independence, maturity, and confidence. Linsly is also provides a safe structured environment where students have supervision, expectations, and adults who genuinely know them.
