While some researchers have looked to uncover the "ideal" school size, these studies often generalize student preferences and behaviours. Your real goal is to find what best suits your child’s needs. Smaller schools can offer a school-wide sense of connection, while larger schools often provide broader programming and opportunities. Also, note that per-grade enrollment often tells a more meaningful story than total enrollment alone (read topic guide).

The diverse and welcoming community enriches the student experience.

According to current students and community members, the vibrant and multicultural student body at Niagara Christian Collegiate (NCC) creates an inclusive atmosphere where diverse perspectives enable students to form meaningful connections, reinforcing a sense of belonging and mutual respect.

One of the biggest things for me was multiculturalism, as there are literally students from all around the world. It's a great attribute to have as it allows students to learn new things when they connect, and helps them grow during high school and even after high school.
If I were to describe the students at NCC to someone who has never visited the school, I would say that they are a diverse group of people who are inviting and friendly. The student community is like a town where everyone knows each other and helps each other out. You hardly ever see someone on their own in NCC. There’s always a familiar face beside them. I would say from what I have noticed being in this school for 1+ years that everyone feels included and no student ever gets left out. I believe that all students thrive in this school and there’s no divide in the student body. Overall, students in this school are very positive and welcoming and everyone, absolutely everyone, fits in.
The student body at Niagara Christian Collegiate (NCC) was diverse and vibrant, with a relatively small size that fostered a close-knit, family-like atmosphere. What stands out most about the general atmosphere is the strong sense of community and support among students. The "typical" student at NCC was friendly, motivated, and respectful, but there was a wide range of personalities and backgrounds that enriched the school experience. Students at NCC shared common values such as integrity, compassion, and a commitment to personal and academic growth. [...] The dynamic between students was generally positive and cooperative, with a strong emphasis on mutual respect and collaboration. Students interacted well, forming lasting friendships and supporting each other both inside and outside the classroom.

The academic culture at NCC emphasizes collaboration and critical thinking.

Insights from alumni suggest that the robust academic program at NCC nurtures a cooperative learning environment that prepares students for future challenges by focusing on creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.

NCC allows students to have a different perspective on the world. Connecting with different students from around the world helps you expand your knowledge in various ways.
Overall, NCC has a higher academic standard than most public schools. The strength of NCC is definitely in the academic courses, as it does not have as many applied and hands on courses. I would say that within the student body, there was some friendly competition that likely occurred when it came to academics, but I don't recall an overly competitive nature. I do recall one particular course where one of the international students was a good help to me in trying to help me understand the content. NCC helped support its boarding students academically by providing a study hall time in the evenings. It was a supervised time for the younger students while the older students were allowed to work on dorm. The level of expectations academically helped prepare me for life's next steps. I was accustomed to working hard when I left NCC.
The general atmosphere among the student body is cooperative rather than overly competitive, with students encouraging each other to succeed. This created a positive and collaborative environment where learning is a shared journey. I felt appropriately challenged and supported academically, with teachers providing clear expectations and constructive feedback to help me improve continuously. NCC's academic program prepared me well for my life's next steps by equipping me with essential skills and knowledge. The emphasis on both academic excellence and personal growth ensured that I was well-rounded and ready to face future challenges.

Small class sizes at NCC ensure personalized attention and success.

Observations from parents and stakeholders emphasize that the school's attentive approach through smaller class sizes allows for personalized student engagement, fostering supportive teacher-student interactions that contribute to students' academic success.

It’s a small school with few students in classes, and you find that the students are not struggling a lot. They are not left behind. That way of dealing with students alone was good enough for me to recommend other parents to take their students there.
