Upcoming open house events

Attending open houses is a great way to learn more about a school and get a feel for the environment. For some general advice on open house visits, go here. For questions to ask that are specific to gifted programs, check out our main gifted education guide.

Broadly speaking, the cost of a gifted school Montreal reflects private school tuition in general. Tuition for day students can range from $5,000 to over $30,000 per year.

There are many affordable private schools for gifted children. Lower-cost schools often provide excellent education by focusing on the classroom basics. You don’t need to spend a fortune on extras—the key is ensuring your child receives individualized support. That said, higher-priced schools typically offer a wider variety of in-class and extracurricular opportunities. They are often larger and more established. For most schools, teacher salaries remain the largest operating expense.

Many gifted education Montreal schools provide financial aid (sometimes called “bursaries,” “tuition relief,” or “tuition assistance”) and scholarships. Financial aid is needs-based, while scholarships are awarded for merit, whether academic, athletic, or other achievements. You can read more about financial aid and scholarships in our dedicated guide. In general, the larger and more expensive private schools offer the most aid. Even comfortable middle-class families may qualify, so don’t hesitate to ask a school about it—regardless of your financial situation.

Below you’ll find the range of costs at Montreal private schools with gifted programs:

  • Make no mistake: gifted kids have different needs than typical students. These learners are often so advanced in their intellectual abilities that they are outliers in the classroom: a standard curriculum and approach won’t be enough. When these students don’t receive the tailored support they need, they can disengage from school—and may even become depressed.

If you know or suspect your child is gifted, you may face the following questions:

You can also explore unique options, such as language immersion programs, International Baccalaureate programs, advanced placement courses (for older students), special needs schools, and Montessori schools.

If you’re still considering these questions, start with our introductory guide to gifted education. Once you’re familiar with the fundamentals, return here to explore specific gifted education Montreal options.

    Private school policies

Private schools are not legally required to provide support for gifted children—and many do not. However, some private schools can offer highly individualized programs for gifted learners. The term “buyer beware” applies: it is your responsibility to ensure a school is equipped to meet the needs of gifted students. The list of private schools on this page (above) is a helpful starting point for your search.
