Mathematics 9 | MTH1W
This course enables students to consolidate, and continue to develop, an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Students will use mathematical processes, mathematical modelling, and coding to make sense of the mathematics they are learning and to apply their understanding to culturally responsive and relevant real-world situations. Students will continue to enhance their mathematical reasoning skills, including proportional reasoning, spatial reasoning, and algebraic reasoning, as they solve problems and communicate their thinking.
This course will take place during the month of July and the delivery of the course material relies on technology to establish a live daily connection between the teacher and the students. Students will work in groups or as a whole class interacting with the teacher and their peers using text, audio, video and screen sharing. This live correspondence will take place in the mornings (Eastern Daylight Time), from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students will continue with their independent work for 2 hours daily after their online time using the shared OneNote Binders, with access to video solutions from Appleby teachers and asynchronous chat with students and faculty. Feedback on homework is provided by the teacher as students work their way through the curriculum.
