Camp Basics
A number of camps offer programming just for boys. Some see boys' only summer camps as offering an opportunity for young men to learn and challenge themselves in an environment where they are not distracted by, or competing for the attention of girls. This is particularly important during the teen years. Boys' summer camps and March break programs afford a unique opportunity for boys to interact exclusively with guys their own age and older strong male role models. Read more

Some parents find that their boys gain specific kinds of confidence during a week or two with males only. At boys' camp, your son will learn to take on responsibilities and tasks and engage in sports and other activities with "the guys." The unique dynamic found in some boys' summer camps are a one-of-a-kind chance to grow and thrive in important ways. Boys have a unique learning style, and uniquely male ways of interacting that can be harmfully stifled in coed environments. The uniquely liberating environment of an all-boys camp offers unique benefits that, in reality, need to be experienced to be appreciated.
There are boys' camps that offer programs for a range of ages, beneficial to a various personality types, from the shy kid to the gangly teenager. A quality boys' camp can offer important and positive influences in a young man's life. Many of the camps listed here offer unique adventures tailored to the needs of boys, exclusively available in these camps for boys only.
Boys in a camp without girls will play, act and react entirely differently. Over the course of a week or longer the setting fosters unique growth (albeit for this shortened period of time). But boys may find that they get dirtier, play harder (or softer) and have different kinds of fun here. Although there are advantages to coed camps and intermixing with girls, time away from this common context can be eye-opening for both the boys and their parents. Some boys find that they have reduced stress and anxiety here, while others may learn how to deal with anxieties found only in this environment. These also support growth in leadership skills, adoption of unique conflict resolution solutions and learning new ways of trusting.

There are traditional day and residential camps that are boys-only, as well as sports (including water sports) or wilderness camps. Whatever the focus, boys' camps aim to help build confidence and develop important life skills on the journey to manhood.
