The Appleby College Summer Leadership Institute offers an engaging online platform that includes class learning hours spent in a live virtual classroom, as well as independent work completed by the student on their own time.

- We offer small class sizes of no more than 12 students in the online learning environment. This ensures that each student has ample one-on-one time with the teacher, to make sure their remote learning needs are met. 
- Class hours vary depending on the subject and are tailored to the different subjects. 
- All leadership courses include one on one coaching time 
- Students are expected to have access to a personal computer or tablet, and internet access to participate in the course.

Leadership of Others | August 2021

Session 1: Mondays and Wednesdays, August 2 to 25, 2021 - LIMITED SPACES REMAIN 
Session 2: Tuesday and Thursdays, August 3 to 26, 2021

The Leadership of Others course is designed to develop the communication and conflict resolution skills in students while building empathy for the world around them. Each week students will work as a group, or independently, to apply leadership skills to solve complex problems. The application focused course will help students learn about leadership styles and better understand who they are as a leader. This course will cover topics that include: Me as a Leader, Communication and Response Styles, Conflict and Resolution, Empathy, and Digital Citizenship. There will be a strong focus on leadership in the digital word, using real life, age appropriate examples, such as Instagram influencers and YouTube stars. 

Using an online conversation and collaboration systems, students will work in groups or as a whole class interacting with the teacher and their peers using text, audio, video and screen sharing. This live correspondence will usually take place in the mornings (Eastern Daylight Time), from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and students will continue with their independent work after their online time using the Canvas learning platform. Students will have one-on-one coaching time with their instructor as part of the course.

Leadership of Self  | July 2021

Session 1: Mondays and Wednesdays, July 5 to July 28, 2021 
Session 2: Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 6 to July 29, 2021

This course is designed to develop self-awareness in students and their interactions with others. Weekly themes explored are: Interactions with Self, Interactions with Others, Resilience, Mindfulness, and Putting it all Together. Students will apply curriculum through age specific and real-life scenarios in groups. At-home applications and reflections will also be assigned to work through independently. Through this course, students will develop their skills of self-awareness, authenticity, resilience, confidence, kindness, compassion, empathy, & mindfulness.
