This camp is designed to build the following character traits:

  • Independence: At Camp Tapawingo campers have the best of all worlds. They have an opportunity to discover new activities and choose their own schedules as well as be part of a very special cabin group. Campers learn how to set new goals and work towards achieving them all while being part of a caring community.
  • Resilience: At Tapawingo campers learn to be part of community where it is OK to meet new people, try new things and trust in themselves and others. Camp provides campers an chance to succeed and learn to accept change.

At Camp Tapawingo, our purpose is to enrich the lives of girls and gender diverse youth through skill building, group work and leadership development in a safe, fun and inclusive outdoor environment.

We are excited to share that over the next five years, we plan to increase diversity, equity and inclusion within our services at Camp Tapawingo. We aspire to be a camp that is representative of Toronto’s diverse community and to provide a welcoming space where camp participants, families, counsellors-in-training and staff feel safe and valued.

Through active diversity outreach, partnerships, and camperships for families on lower incomes, we work to ensure that all experiences are positive and valuable ones. We strive to be a community where individuals can relax and be their best selves.

We believe that our focus on nature and the environment is crucial both for our world and for our mental health. The healing aspects of nature, along with the space and time to reflect, are vitally important for youth, perhaps now more than ever.

We trust that living in a diverse camp community, with experienced staff will allow for the intentional development of healthy interactions, respect for others, and to celebrate our differences.

Laughter, music, and creativity in an outdoor setting are fundamental to the camp experience, and we believe Camp Tapawingo will be a truly enriching experience your child!

We must open the doors and we must see to it they remain open, so that others can pass through.

— Rosemary Brown
