Sending my children to Lone Prairie Camp has been a great decision. Both have learned independence in being away from home for a week and I feel good about them being in a safe environment. They’ve had fun with activities such as gaga ball, 9 square, rock wall climbing, zip lining, big group field activities, tubing, and more! At pick-up time they’re all smiles, wanting to go back for the next year. This is now a yearly event we look forward to.
We found out about Lone Prairie Camp through our church who supports this camp. We chose Lone Prairie Camp over other camps as the price is great for a week of camp in a good location not too far from home. I especially loved the tuck credit for early registration.
My son loved climbing the rock wall, zipping down the zip line, and of course the tubing behind the speed boat. There was even one night they got the kids out of bed for a midnight game of Mission Impossible. He talked about that experience for weeks! I really liked how everything was up to date and had lots of safety practices in place to ensure a safe, fun time.
I had both a son attend one week and my daughter attend the week after. At first, I was worried they weren’t attending the same week so they might feel alone, but was quickly put at ease the minute I arrived and there were kids running around already playing basketball, gaga ball, and 9 square. I was able to sign my kids in and they immediately joined in with the others.
My then 8-year-old girl went to camp and saw the zip line and said no way was she going down that. By the end of the week, I heard all about how she went down and how much fun it was. I could see how she grew in independence which gave her the confidence to try something that intimidated her.
I love how the counselors have a zest for life! They show God’s love by taking care of our kids for a week and helping them grow in courage, knowledge, and understanding of the Bible through their summer theme, chapel, campfire testimonies, and nightly devotionals. The kids also received a cabin picture and special message mailed to them when it was their birthdays.
I am so glad they have a list of things to bring on their website, I found it very helpful. We needed pretty much everything they suggested. Your Bible, some bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, rubber boots, sneakers… those of course are the necessities. Don’t forget your favourite pillow and a comfortable sleeping bag.
My kids have always had fun attending this camp. They tell me stories for weeks about the field games, campfires, singing in chapel, canoeing, beach volleyball, and awesome counselors. Wonderful memories were made and my kids look forward to their week at camp each summer. No matter what age your kids are, there is a week for them to go and enjoy what this camp has to offer.
