Michela’s Photography Adventure in Italy & Greece

his summer, Michela, a Grade 11 student with a serious eye for photography, traded her classroom for cobblestone streets, ancient ruins, and Mediterranean sunsets. As part of Blyth Academy Travel’s Italy & Greece program, she took the Grade 11 Photography course (AWQ3M) while exploring two of the most photogenic countries on the planet.

“Photography is something I’ve always been passionate about,” Michela said. “Being able to take a course while traveling through two of the most beautiful countries in the world was a dream come true.”

And what a dream it was. Picture this: snapping golden-hour shots in Santorini, capturing the hustle of Roman streets, and framing the perfect composition in a Florentian piazza. Every day was a new canvas, and Michela was ready with her lens.

“I learned how to use my camera more effectively and how to compose shots that really speak to people,” she explained. “It wasn’t just about taking pretty pictures, it was about capturing emotion, history, and culture.”

The AWQ3M course blended hands-on learning with real-world inspiration. Students weren’t just studying photography—they were living it. Whether it was experimenting with lighting in a Greek marketplace or finding symmetry in Florence’s architecture, the course pushed Michela to see the world differently.

With a small group of just eight students, Michela benefitted from plenty of direct feedback from both her teacher and peers. This intimate setting fostered a collaborative and rewarding learning environment that helped her grow faster and more confidently as an artist.

“One of the best parts was getting to share my work with others and hear their thoughts,” she said. “It helped me grow not just as a photographer, but as an artist.”

Her portfolio from the trip is a visual diary of adventure, creativity, and growth. They tell the story of a summer that was anything but ordinary.

“I feel more confident in my abilities now,” she said. “This trip helped me realize that photography is something I want to pursue seriously.”
