The Second City Training Centre Expands With A New 8000 Square Foot Location
The Second City Training Centre Toronto is proud to announce a major expansion to the third floor of 99 Blue Jays Way, the home of The Second City Mainstage Theatre. Opened July 30, 2015, The Second City Training Centre features eight sparkling-new multi-media studios, an ultra cool lounge area with access to 50+ years of Second City's hilarious archives, and a new home for The John Candy Box Theatre.
"The integration of our new training space with the theatre is very exciting as it allows for the kind of happy accidental meetings that often inspire new projects,” said Klaus Schuller, Producer and Executive Director of The Second City Toronto.
The Second City Training Centre Toronto is the largest school of improv and sketch comedy in the country with an annual enrollment of over 6,000 students. After expanding the training facilities just five years ago, the exponential growth of the Training Centre required another, even larger move.
The new, specially-designed centre accommodates the demand for additional classes in the existing Adult, Youth and Teen programs, as well as brand new classes for all experience levels, including Stagecraft, Public Speaking, Stand-Up and Improv for Anxiety. Training Centre instructors teaching the art of funny include Second City Mainstage alumni such as Adam Cawley, Rob Norman, Carly Heffernan, Leslie Seiler and Ashley Botting.
The 65-seat John Candy Box Theatre, named after the legendary Second City alumnus, moved to 99 Blue Jays Way as well, where it will continue to provide performance opportunities to students and emerging artists with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment, and access to a bar and lounge - for the audience, of course!
