Get out and try new things!

My daughter just came back from her very first week overnight camp at Olympia sports camp and couldn’t be more happier with her experience. I’ve decided to write a review because as a parent I’ve checked reviews and was a bit hesitant after reading a few bad reviews despite of being referred to this camp by 2 other parent. My daughter went by herself for the volleyball program. She’s a shy and reserved person so I really wanted an experience away from electronics, where she could connect with other teens her age ( she’s almost 14) and here’s what I saw and experience she shared with me:

1) she was in a cabin with 10 people, 8 campers (1 from Ottawa and 1 from Montreal) and 2 camp counselors. The counselors were great, high energy and helped bring everyone in the cabin together. The cabin is a camp cabin, so if you are looking for a 5 star resort this is not for you. However, in this cabin they’ve created lot of great memories.

2) she loves the food, plenty of it and variety. She sad she never felt hungry but they also have snack store

3) the activities were well thought and well organized, very well structured which taught them discipline and yet they had lots of free and fun time. I am so impressed and can’t imagine the amount of time and resources for putting all this together.

4) the people - she loved everyone she met, she said all kids were nice, happy, smiling, the energy were contagious and she tried all the activity she could. They had camp fire, dance, cabin competition, OMG the amount of activity and fun she has only made me regret for not putting her before.

What I teach my kids is: Have an open mind and open heart, try new things. And I am so glad we did Olympia. Big Shoutout to Lizzy and Maggie who took care of my daughter you both made her experience magical. I highly recommend sign up for the Bunk1 app, I’ve sent her messages from there and was able to see pictures of her

The best week I've ever had!

I went to Camp Olympia in the summer and it was the best week I ever had. I did things I never did before, I made new friends, and learned new things, all while having 3 meals a day and a place to sleep. The stations and facilities are all clean the food is good and the activities there are all really fun. If you want to take a break from your phone and get outdoors, Camp Olympia is the place for you. I would definitely go agai ... Show More

Tournament Play

The coaching was great and the competition level was also good. The tournaments against each other were really fun. I think I got a lot better at basketball while I was at Olympia.

Love my Coaches

I loved my coaches, and the sessions were also very fun. I also liked how they divided us up by age a little bit so we could be with similar skilled people.

Summer Coach

Olympia is as amazing as I remembered it from my time as a camper. Kids get the chance to disconnect and make memories that last a life time. The anticipation for the 2023 camp season has already started in our house for campers and coaches.

Summer Senior Staff

I came to work at Olympia for the first time last summer, and I can confidently say it is the most magical place to work! From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into the OSC family and felt right at home. Olympia brings in the most incredible kind of people - every person I met had the most incredibly optimistic mindset and was so much fun to be around. Working at Olympia is like a breath of fresh air from everyday life, and I cannot wait to be back this summer ... Show More

Summer 2022 at Olympia was unlike any other! It was so amazing to get back in full swing and have hundreds of campers playing sports, and dancing together every week. After over 10 years at Olympia, I am always amazed how it keeps getting better every day. This summer was especially rewarding to me as a second year unit leader as I had the opportunity to help campers staff have the best possible experience at camp. My favourite memories were playing in the camper Counsellor basketball games, and seeing campers step out of their comfort zones at the end of the week. Olympia has taught me so much about leadership and life. I am so grateful that I have got to call Olympia my second home for so long and to have met the most amazing and lifelong friends along the way ... Show More

FEATURE HERO SAM!

Sam who is currently in grade 8, has been playing Rep. basketball since grade 3. A few seasons ago he was moved down from the A team to the B team, which was appropriate for his skill level and gave him the chance to grow as a player. After 2 years on the B Team and trying out again this season, Sam found o Sam found out he had earned a spot back on the A team! Sam feels that Olympia had a lot to do with this skill development and credits his week 8 coaches Kara Mayer and Matt Ruhnke for their help.

Way to go Sam! We are so proud of you. Have an amazing season

OUR KIDS review of Olympia Sports Camp

our take

All sports camps seek to develop skills, and competition can, understandably, seem like a natural aspect of that process. Olympia, too, is certainly about skill development, though leadership navigates the competitive aspect particularly well—not shying from it, but placing it within a context of personal goals and goal setting. “It’s not about getting to the top of the climbing tower,” says Nicole Nicole Christamtsis, “it’s about getting higher than you did the day before. That’s an important lesson.” It is, and one that Olympia is very adept at delivering. Many campers are true keeners, arriving at camp with some very sport specific goals, and intending to build upon their prior expertise. That said, not all do, and there is a place for them here, too. For many campers, Olympia is an opportunity to try new things as much as it is building on existing skills. The programs are vast, with facilities to match, and the instructors bring professional coaching to all of them. The focus throughout is on building confidence, independence, interpersonal skills, encouraging campers to meet new people and try new things. The experience is challenging and active, in equal measure to recognition and reward.
