On behalf of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s University, we would like to introduce you to Connections: Queen's Summer Engineering Academy (QSEA) Senior. This non-credit experiential education program offers engineering focused courses for students currently in grades 9-11. The courses provide an overview of Engineering in a university setting, and caters to Canadian high school students. QSEA senior is available in both one-week and multiple-week versions as there are multiple different courses to choose from within July and August of 2021 for a total of 5 weeks.

Please find more information about about our course offerings below:

  1. Engineering at Queen's - In this course, students will be introduced to the core engineering disciplines offered at Queen’s University, while virtually exploring life as an engineering student. Students will apply the fundamentals of math and science to open ended design problems, requiring abstract and technical thinking to explore the Engineering Design Process and the engineering profession. Students will learn basic engineering principles such as design, drafting, modeling and laboratory skills through experiments, along with the opportunity to strengthen professional skills such as asynchronous learning and communication. Engineering at Queen’s will showcase the diverse field that is engineering!

In addition to designing and creating various projects, participants will be exposed to a variety of educational technologies including: 3D design, CoSpaces, Artificial Intelligence (machine learning) & other engineering design software programs used by Queen’s engineering undergraduate students. Throughout this course, participants will learn more about the following engineering disciplines offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s: Chemical, Civil, Mining, Geological & Engineering Physics

  2. Engineering the Digital World - In this course, students will be introduced to a variety of the engineering disciplines offered at Queen’s University as they apply to virtual and digital environments. Students will apply the fundamentals of math and science to open-ended design problems, requiring abstract and technical thinking to explore the Engineering Design Process, along with the engineering profession. Students will learn basic engineering principles as they explore the digital world through computer programming, hardware design, the construction of electronic circuits, artificial intelligence, and the applications of machine learning. Engineering the Digital World will showcase the diverse (and emerging) field that is engineering!

In addition to practicing safe handling of design tools participants will be exposed to a variety of educational technologies including: 3D design, simulated microcontrollers (Micro:bits & Arduino), Coding languages (block & script) and robotics.
