On behalf of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s University, we would like to introduce you to Connections: Queen's Summer Engineering Academy (QSEA) Senior. This non-credit experiential education program offers engineering focused courses for students currently in grades 9-11 (going into Grade 10 - 12 in Sept 2022). The courses provide an overview of Engineering in a university setting, and caters to Canadian high school students.
QSEA senior is available in both one-week and multiple-week versions as there are multiple different courses to choose from within July and August of 2026 for a total of 6 weeks.
Please find more information about about our course offerings below:
Course A: Engineering the Future of Ingenuity
Course Description: Digital technologies are overhauling the way we live and work.
Through creativity and collaboration, our participants will investigate the complex interactions between humans, engineered machines, and infrastructure, as well as their natural and social environments. This course will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students to explore intelligent systems and robotic machines
that enhance human productivity, safety, performance, and quality of life. Throughout this course, participants will explore the following engineering streams (disciplines) offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at
Queen’s: Mechatronics (Computer, Mechanical, Electrical), AI (Computer), Robotics (Electrical).
Course B: Engineering the Body and Beyond
Course Description: With advances in technology and research, our medical solutions are becoming increasingly
innovative. Using creative and collaborative approaches, participants will investigate innovative solutions for Canada’s changing medical needs from an engineering perspective. In doing so, participants will explore the relationships between engineering and the fields of medicine and health science. Throughout this course, participants will
explore the following engineering streams (disciplines) offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at
Queen’s: Biochemical (Chemical), Biomedical (Chemical, Electrical), Biomechanical (Mechanical)
Course C: Engineering the Natural and Built Environments of Tomorrow
Course Description: The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals address the most urgent global problems - from ending poverty to tackling climate change. During this course, participants will explore the goals focused on the environment. They will create engineering solutions that minimize the human impact on the natural environment
while creating and maintaining the sustainable built environments we require. They will engage in hands-on learning experiences around sustainable mining strategies and efficient chemical processing, and will investigate the relationship between the design and construction of structures and the challenges of our changing climate. Throughout this course, participants will explore the following engineering streams (disciplines) offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s: Structural (Civil), Geotechnical (Civil, Geological), Hydrotechnical (Civil),
Environmental, Chemical Processing (Mining).
