    • MOLLY MCCULLOCH IS MAKING WAVES AS SPIRE’S NEW ASSISTANT SWIM COACH

Molly McCulloch is diving into her new role as SPIRE’s new assistant swim coach. With a Master of Science in Recreation Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders and Sciences from SUNY Cortland, Molly brings a wealth of experience to her new position.

Molly has been an assistant swim coach for over six years, including time spent working at her alma mater to lead the Red Dragons to the most points in the school’s history and breaking records for both the men’s and women’s teams. In 2019, SUNY’s women’s team broke seven school records and landed a second-place finish, while the men’s team finished third and set one school record. Molly was also instrumental in helping to send a member of the women’s team to the NCAA Championships that same year, earning her a spot on 2020’s SUNYAC Women’s Swimming Staff of the Year.

She also served as Cortland’s Head Coach of their Adapted Swim Team, supervising college students and teaching competitive swimming to members of the community with disabilities as they earned course credit through the Physical Education Department.

Molly has worked with several other universities as well, including Allegheny College and Saint Francis University. She has also worked for the HAWKS Swimming Association in New York, where she mentored swimmers from the ages of six through 18 and assisted in swim meets in the Adirondack LLSC, and the Masters Swimming Association, where she guided and wrote sets for masters level swimmers from 23 to 60 years of age.

Her own swim career includes four years of swimming for SUNY New Paltz, where she still holds the record for the 100 m butterfly.

Molly had heard of SPIRE from her involvement in the east coast’s swimming world and understood it to be an elite facility focused on helping athletes be the best version of themselves in all aspects. She knew SPIRE would be a great step forward in her career and a welcome change in her focus. She explained, “While coaching college, I was working with athletes who are almost done with their swimming careers. Transitioning to SPIRE and working with high school-aged swimmers allows me to work with them and coach them throughout their core fundamental years to help them love the sport.”

She will be a welcome addition to SPIRE’s swim camps, bringing her own experience as a swim camp coach who taught techniques, coordinated drill work and sets and provided round the clock supervision of participants at SUNY, Nazareth College, Cortland State University, the University of Michigan and NC State University.

SPIRE’s Director of Aquatics, Thad Schultz, is thrilled to be working with his new assistant swim coach. “Molly has joined the SPIRE swimming staff and jumped right in,” he explained, going on to add, “she did a great job covering practices while I traveled to Europe to recruit. The swimmers all love her already and she is a great addition to the SPIRE family.”

Molly is equally as excited to be working with Coach Schultz and the talented team at SPIRE. “I am looking forward to growing as a coach,” Molly said. “Thad has a great background in coaching and I believe that I will learn a lot from him by being involved in a community here where everyone is working towards the same goal of having their athletes succeed. I will get to work with a lot of amazing people here and be exposed to many different coaching styles and ideas!”
