Our daughter had a fantastic time at the Stanstead College language camp. They offer ESL and FSL for students at all levels and combine it with a great outdoor program. She was one of the younger campers (most students were between 12 and 15), but made a number of great friends from the local area and around the world. The staff and teachers were great. We were worried at first about her first camp experience, but it was smooth the whole way. Highly recommend!
We wanted a camp with an educational and outdoor/active component. This one came recommended by a family friend. We did look at others nearby, but ultimately, this one checked most of the boxes. It was fairly priced, and no, we were not surprised by any additional fees (there really weren't any)
She liked her in-class teacher very much. He was a young education student and seemed to be a great hire for the camp. The outdoor activities included trips to Montreal, Quebec City, and some camping trips. This was all good.
She did not know anybody at the camp prior to attending, but as mentioned, she made many friends. The camp has a good mix of Canadian and international students, who probably choose it for the language immersion side of things. There were no issues with bullying, nor did we hear of any, although I am sure no camp can say that it has never happened.
She is a social kid, but was not homesick, and this probably was a boost in confidence as she starts high school this coming year. I don't really know of a particular aspect that challenged her or pushed her out of her comfort zone...maybe the experience as a whole did that. All in all, we were very happy with the camp and the people running it.
Besides the camp director and our daughter's teacher, we didn't really get to know anyone else on staff in depth. Again, they all seemed qualified, and it looked like the team worked well together. One of her friends had an injury, and the on-staff nurse, I heard, was very good.
Not really, no. They provided a what-to-bring list that was pretty thorough. I guess I would say a good sleeping bag for the camping trips is important.
The camp is on the campus of a boarding school. You can call and set up a tour, and most likely, you would be able to meet the camp coordinator in person. We did this. We were able to see the dorms, meal hall, and other facilities in advance. It's about an hour and a half from Montreal, but worth the trip to see it.

"It's very good for elite hockey players looking for summer exposure to new development."
The camp atmosphere is brilliant, the dorm-style overnight stay throughout the week is a lot of fun, and the activities put on at night after hockey are always good. I developed my hockey skills, but ... Read full review

I have attended Stanstead's language adventure camp only once, but the schedule was well structured and efficient. Counselors and instructors were cheerful, kind, and mature. I entered this camp with... Read full review
