(5) Overall experience

Brigs Youth Sail Training is such a unique program that has allowed me to meet my closest friends that I wouldn't have met otherwise. The program atmosphere is welcoming and positive, feeling like family, no matter your background. Brigs has taught me so much about sailing and navigation, but also about leadership. teamwork, delegation, and public speaking. These are all crucial to running a tall ship, and Brigs has encouraged me to expand my skill set.

(5) Program quality and activities

Brigs was my first experience sailing. Over the past years, I have learned so much about sailing. During winter program, doing maintenance on the ships has given me experience with hand tools, power tools, working on rigging, and project management. Every summer, I look forward to our traditions like sunset ceremony and ships concert (talent show).

(5) Social dynamics and experience

Being a part of the Brigs crew is like being a part of a family. Going on board a tall ship with 30 other strangers and having to eat, sleep, and live in the same compartment as them forces you to get extremely close with them. There are so many memorable experiences I have from visiting ports, swimming, and spending time with my crewmates, that I will cherish forever.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

As a part of the crew, I can vouch that all of our crew, including our captain and our mate, are incredibly welcoming and helpful. When I was a trainee, I remember bonding with the crew at the time and always being able to approach them for whatever I needed.

(5) Advice and tips

Advice I would give would be to live in the moment. Joining Brigs Youth Sail Training is one of the best decisions I have made and it is such a unique experience that can never be replicated. Make new friends with everyone and participate in all the activities you can.

I've spent 3 summers in the program, as well as about to complete my third Winter Program. Brigs has taught me community and teamwork more than any other activity that I have been a part of. Living an... Read full review
