    Who are you as an organization?

    YMCA John Island Camp is a historic Overnight Camp situated on an island in the North Chanel of the Georgian Bay (south of Spanish, Ontario). YMCA John Island Camp offers traditional camp programs, leadership development, and wilderness tripping programs.

    What do you do differently or uniquely well?

    "YMCA John Island Camp is the summer camp and residential outdoor education centre of the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario. We are located near the town of Spanish, Ontario Canada.

    YMCA John Island Camp is proud of our reputation for providing high quality camp experiences in a fun, caring, and safe environment- all while being in a unique, inspiring setting in the North Channel of Lake Huron! We serve children, young adults and adults through traditional camp programs, leadership development, family camp, wilderness travel programs, and adult weekend programs.

    Who are your staff and counsellors?

    "We believe that the Y is a place to belong, achieve potential and strengthen community, and our camp counsellors are chosen based on the same beliefs. Each staff member has a love for camp and working with kids, along with their first aid and CPR certificates and any other necessary training they need for the camp programming. Our diverse camp leaders will make sure your children get the most out of each week of camp!"

    What do families need to know about registration?

    "Applications are on a first come basis and regsitration can be done online in our online portal through our website for both YMCA John Island Camp and YMCA Summer Day Camps. Each year we host an open house and invite all new and returning camps, along with their families, to come and meet the staff and see the site!

    With many options to choose from, YMCA John Island Camp and YMCA NEO Summer Day Camps are an easy go-to for children who want to experience everything. Located in Northeastern Ontario in the North Channel of Lake Huron, many activities are water-focused, like swimming, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, and kayaking. Kids get to choose their activities or program streams to participate in over the course of their stay, meaning they are in control of what they get to do. Whether that’s trying something new or perfecting skills at something they already love, kids at YMCA John Island Camp are never bored. The focus at this camp is on adventure, trying new things, and making new friendships. Lifelong connections are guaranteed. At the end of the summer, John Island offers a family camp, where families can get together and experience camp life. All of the regular amenities of camp apply and it is a great bonding experience. Notably, their beaches, trails, wildlife, and of course, campfires, are the highlights for most campers. Their very long history (almost 70 years!) of camping is a testament to what they offer.
