The best STEAM camps offer hands-on learning combined with innovative teaching techniques. Zen Maker Lab does just that. Cyri Jones started Zen Maker Lab at the beginning of the maker lab craze, after realizing that a more structured way of teaching children to use new and future technology made more sense. Fostering kids’ natural curiosity, the programs for Zen Maker Lab have been developed and redefined over the past 10 years. The focus is on empowering kids to be designers and makers and to turn their own ideas into reality. Spending time building machines, coding, and connecting and collaborating with peers, the Zen Maker Lab curriculum has a design–make–play approach. Kids can see the results of their efforts immediately, boosting confidence and inspiring them to take risks. Making mistakes is mandatory as kids learn and discover what works. A diverse team also makes the difference, with the instructors having varied backgrounds, but they’re all passionate about STEM and what it can mean to the world.

Cyri Jones, President
We are excited and happy to see how far we have come with the idea of bringing maker lab initiatives and STEAM curriculum to children, youth, and young adults through hands-on projects.
It all started back in 2013, when maker labs were just starting to become popular, and we were providing service work to different small companies and locals. One day one client came with his son and daughter to our maker lab, and they both stayed staring at a 3D printer that was running and asking several questions for the whole time we were meeting with him. That's when we had an aha! moment, and realized that children are naturally curious, and we were missing on an opportunity to help them get familiar and educate them on this future technologies. We decided to run a pilot program with around 20 participants, where children learned to assemble their own 3D printers, this was a total success with more interest than expected. That's when we decided to shift our focus towards children's education and curriculum development.
We can't believe this coming year it's join to be our 10 years anniversary, and we can't wait to keep empowering the next generation of designers, makers, and healthy and active citizens.
