Top Summer hockey camps for 2026/2027

Find hockey camps near you

Hockey summer camps are structured programs that combine on-ice instruction, skill development, and team play, often delivered through established hockey camps and hockey schools across Canada. They can't guarantee an NHL career (of course, nothing can), but getting into summer hockey camps like those above will certainly deepen your love of the game. Hockey camp improves skills like skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting and goaltending. Find hockey camps in cities across the country such as the following:

Find hockey camps by type

Depending on your age and the degree of commitment you want to make, there are a number of different ways to approach a hockey camp search. These hockey camps vary by age, intensity, and duration.

Overnight hockey camps engage you for a week or longer. These camps, including Canlan Sports Hockey Camp positively influence your development and lead to improvement that will last a lifetime. They’re also the ideal ground for gauging your skill level against others.

Day programs are perfect if you want to stay closer to home, while indulging your love of the coolest game on earth.

Other types of camps that can help you improve your game

Many other kinds of camps can help young hockey players improve their physical conditioning, training in ways that may indirectly aid hockey skills. Time here will not only help them become better all-around athletes. Increasingly, observers of the game understand the value of a diversity of interests, that can also increase soft skills like maturity and leadership. Here’s a look at some other camps (in rough order of relevance) that can disrupt the sameness of some kids' training programs.

Skating camps focus on various techniques, taught by people focused on the importance of leg strength, body positioning and detailed analysis of striding techniques, etc. Some of the best skating camps are run by former Olympians and professionals with experience backed by technology that will develop your skating, a fundamental aspect of hockey excellence.

Cycling camps help develop leg strength and stamina to give you an edge. The best hockey players have very well-developed legs.

Gymnastics camps are ideal for the improvement of flexibility and coordination.

Soccer camps are also ideal for improving leg and knee strength, and improving footwork, a skill seen in an increasing number of professional hockey players.

Multi-sports camps expand your interests and may expose you to new training opportunities and even other sports you excel at.

Benefits and long-term effects of attending kids’ hockey camp

Hockey school is an important part of the development of any player, of course. Many NHLers have spent time at hockey camps listed at ourkids.net, of which we've profiled at least one—Josh Bailey—who’s had a lengthy pro career.

Like many, he had a lifelong ambition to make a career of playing hockey. Attending hockey school was a critical part of his commitment to this goal, and it helped him make it. "Being good isn't good enough anymore," he says. "There is a lineup of guys who want your spot. You have to work harder to stay."

That said, it’s a fact of life that not everyone who attends hockey school is going to have an NHL career. And every player who makes it (including Bailey) will agree that hockey school is about playing, first. “Of course, you start by focusing on having fun,” he says. “When you have a good time every day at camp it makes you love the game more.”

The connections you make with people may not lead to a career, but they can have many other benefits that are not always easily measured. Those connections are a key part of camp life. Sure, you’ll play a lot of hockey, but you’ll also meet so many other players, mentors, students and people who simply love the sport.  Camps are situated throughout the country, and you’ll get to see different parts of Canada you would not, any other way. Canada and ice hockey go together in so many different ways. Summer hockey school in a different part of the country from where you live is one more way that national pride and the love of this great game come together.

Find the best hockey camp

When starting your search for a hockey camp, it’s a good idea to keep the following questions in mind:

• What results or references can they tell you about? That is, who are their successful graduates?
• What level of commitment do instructors (pro players) make? Do they come back year after year? How often do professional players visit the camp and about how long do they stay to interact with campers?
• Aside from hockey, what else do they teach in terms of conditioning, extracurricular learning, etc.?
• You can meet many hockey camps at the Our Kids Camp Expo.

For many families, hockey summer camps are where skill development, confidence, and long-term passion for the game begin.
