Vancouver: The Big City
Surrounded by dramatic snowcapped mountains, and met by the Pacific ocean on its marina, Vancouver is a city everyone should want to explore. The city of Vancouver is a world-renowned modern, cosmopolitan city on the beautiful Pacific ocean. Aside from it's natural surroundings the city is famous for its art, music and ice hockey scenes! This Summer our students will visit the beautiful Stanley park where there is green open spaces for relaxing whilst there are spectacular views looking back at the city- a postcard-picture opportunity! However it would not be a trip to Vancouver without exploring downtown and completing a Academic Camp Canada classic- an activity known as 'Culture Comparison'!
The Task - What is Culture Comparison?
Culture Comparison is a student favourite and we have run for several years in our London camp based in Westminster opposite parliament and Big Ben. The task consists of the following: a group of students, a ambitious checklist, lots of energy and lots of laughter! The students will get a checklist of landmarks within walking distance around the city. With the guidance of their map, their collaborative teamwork and initiative they must locate each landmark and take a picture of their team with this landmark. Students will have a chance to really experience the city including Gas town where students will find cobblestone streets, iron lampposts and Victorian architecture! Student's will get a feel for Vancouver's diverse and multicultural background visiting areas such as China town- no more clues you will just have to wait! For teams who are especially good at completely the checklist may even have time to find those all important souvenirs whilst near the shopping Vancouver has to offer. The student's hard work is of course rewarded with prizes for best photo and the team who complete the checklist the quickest!
What an excellent way to make friends from over 30 different nationalities whilst exploring one of Canada's greatest cities.
