Medics Camp is thrilled to a part of the Cassie & Friends family day event supporting children and their families who are affected by juvenile arthritis. Cassie and Friends is a Canadian charity that is on a mission to transform the lives of kids and families living with juvenile arthritis and other rheumatic diseases through research, education, connection and support and they are truly AMAZING! Most people think of arthritis as a condition of the elderly but Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) affects 1 out of 1,000 children which means approximately 10,000 kids in Canada alone are living with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. Idiopathic means unknown cause or spontaneous origin and this condition can present as early as infancy.
On Sunday May 5th Medics Camp will join Cassie & Friends along with medical professionals from McMaster's Children's Hospital and SickKids Hospital to host over 300 children and their families at Kingbridge Centre located in King Ontario for a day of fun, friends and learning. This free event is designed to connect and support those affected by JIA. Medics Camp will be hosting the medical stations for children with JIA and their siblings as well as their Teddy Bear patients. In addition to our traditional Medics Camp vital sign stations we've also created some new ones specifically for this event that are designed to educate kids on some of the procedures and equipment they are likely to encounter on their medical journey with JIA. By understanding how an MRI machine works, why injections might be needed and what foods can help minimize inflammation we hope these stations will empower kids to feel more in control of their condition and treatments.
