Mi’kmaq Art & Exploration Community Arts Day

Ross Creek's October Community Arts Day featured incredible Mi’kmaq art and entertainment including a presentation in both song and dance by celebrated dancer and drummer Trevor Gould. The World Champion performer gave an emotional and enriching presentation that included historical context for his attire, music, and dance. His voice echoed through the studio and had the audience enraptured.

Artist Alan Syliboy was in attendance answering questions and giving insight into his Thundermaker Exhibit currently on show in the Ross Creek Professional Gallery. Thudermaker is a collection of colourful paintings that make up his children's book of the same name. Guests wandered the gallery, huddled close reading the book and comparing it to the artwork on the walls, and chatting to Syliboy.

The food offered was an incredible selection of Indigenous inspired dishes. The dishes served included a rabbit stew and other game animals inspired by traditional meals. A very unique option was the bread dough served raw with toppings to be cooked yourself over an outdoor fire - a very effective and delicious way to cook!

Arts activities for all ages took over one of the large Ross Creek Studios. The art activities involved guided instructions and/or inspiration for everything from petroglyphs to dream catchers allowing every guest to leave with something special.
