"Marcus is a very loyal person," he added. "He's been with me since the 7th grade and loyalty had a lot to do with it. They never stopped recruiting him when he got hurt last year."
Carr, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, picked Kevin Stallings' Panthers over Clemson, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech.
"From a exposure and fit standpoint the ACC is as good as it gets in college basketball," Messiah said. "He has a chance to start right away and help usher in a new era in Pitt basketball."
Playing for the Northern Kings this summer, Carr proved himself as a talented scorer and playmaker. Messiah thinks Carr can help them playing both on and off the ball.
"Marcus brings leadership, scoring ability and a hard nosed edged to Pitt," Carr said. "He is a special talent with the ball in his hands, running a team, and equally as talented off the ball where he uses his deadly outside jumpshot to score in bunches. On defense he brings tremendous on the ball pressure and will surprise a lot of coaches this year with the strides he's made on that end."
Carr is the third prospect in the 2017 class to pledge to Stallings. Carr joins four-star guard Aaron Thompson and three-star big man Terrell Brown.
