Who are you as an organization?
Founded in 1977 and incorporated in 1978, Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) is a not-for-profit arts organization focusing on art education, art exhibitions and community engagement. Located in the heart of urban Mississauga in beautiful Riverwood Park. As one of Mississauga’s pillar arts and culture organizations and its premier visual art centre, VAM concentrates its efforts on three areas of excellence: Art Education, Art Exhibition and Community Engagement.
What do you do differently or uniquely well?
"VAM at Riverwood is a leading provider of visual arts programming for adults, teens and children (6+). VAM’s team of artist instructors offer over 200 courses, workshops, and camps in-house and online. Courses cover all levels and most mediums – acrylic, oil, watercolour, drawing, clay and mixed media.
VAM’s highly successful ArtReach Schools program delivers quality visual arts workshops to over 85 Peel Region schools. Throughout the year, VAM fundraises for its Creative Children’s Fund which gives deserving children in need a week-long, summer camp experience."
Who are your staff and counsellors?
"Classes are led by our experienced art instructors teaching a diverse array of skills and projects in a co-operative environment. Camp support staff include a Summer Camp Coordinator, Program Coordinator, a dedicated Volunteer Team and administrative staff. All camp staff over 18 years of age have up-to-date police checks and a minimum of two staff members at any time hold valid First Aid Certification."

Starting March 12, VAM has revisited our mask mandate. Face makes will be encouraged but no longer mandatory. We ask for the cooperation of all staff, students and volunteers to respect the choice of others if they choose to wear a mask or not. More details about property: VAM is a premier visual arts centre and gallery located at 4170 Riverwood Park Lane in central Mississauga. The facility, owned by the City of Mississauga and built exclusively for VAM, is surrounded Riverwood, 150 acres of urban wilderness located off Burnhamthorpe Road West at the Credit River. Designed by architect Brian Brownlie and opened in 2003, the one-story Art Centre features Frank Lloyd Wright inspired architecture utilizing slate and cedar on the exterior and floor to ceiling windows in its studio classrooms. VAM is located in the heart of urban Mississauga in beautiful Riverwood, a 60-hectare (150-acre) property of forest, riverbank and meadow nestled along the banks of the historic Credit River. The property was a local Iroquois hunting ground in the 1400s; housed early farmsteads in the 1800s and became a private country estate in the early 1900s. Riverwood contains one of the largest mosaics of vegetation in the Credit Valley and is home to 46 species of birds and animals. The public MacEwan Terrace Gardens includes aquatic. herb, kitchen, moss and fragrant gardens including the award-winning Enabling Garden located alongside the historic MacEwan Barn. Visual Arts Mississauga, The City of Mississauga, The Riverwood Conservancy and Credit Valley Conservancy are all Riverwood stakeholders and regular meetings are held to ensure communication which is vital to operations. Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood is a magical place where history, nature, beauty and peace blend together to create an enjoyable and lasting creative experience.
