(5) Overall experience

Our experience with our daughter at Wildflower has been so helpful in building our daughter’s confidence. Our daughter has struggled in regular school and sport programs. The instructors at Wildflower are very knowledgeable in helping my daughter overcome her anxieties. Before attending camp, our daughter would always say no to trying new things. After the encouragement from her camp instructor, she has learned some new tools to help her try new things that are hard or scary. We are so thankful for the progress that she has shown and we are ready to have her attend camp again this year.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

We first were attracted to attending camp at Wildflower because of the animal aspect. Our daughter loves all animals, often more than people. So we wanted a space for her to connect with animals and nature. We chose this camp because of the inclusivity. Their values as a business really align with our family values. Our experience has been so worth the cost and we are looking forward to watching our child grow while participating in their camps again this year.

(5) Program quality and activities

Our daughter loves animals and play. The Wanderers program really let her be creative and play at her own pace. She loves being outdoors and in nature. The activities at camp held her attention and she was excited every day to tell us all of the new games she played. One of her favorite things is learning about the chickens, learning how to feed them and interact with them. She loves holding and cuddling the chickens too. The instructors were always communicating with us. They were open to all parent feedback and made sure that the kids were enjoying their time. The effectiveness of the program shows in the confidence changes we have seen with our daughter. She is still scared to try new things, but she doesn’t shut down and say no all the time anymore. She is able to process her fear and still try new things.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

My daughter has made many new friends attentions camps and programs at Wildflower. She has invited them to her birthday parties and arranged times to play outside of camp. She has found a place that lets her be herself and meet new friends that have similar interests. We didn’t encounter any issues with bullying. The instructors are very good at redirecting the kids if there are any situations. They also make sure that kids of all backgrounds and abilities feel including and cared for.

(5) Skills and growth

My child has gained skills in sports, socially and in caring for animals. She has learned how to fall safely, how to run and jump through fields, how to throw a ball properly and other physical skills. She has also learned how to make new friends, include others in games and was able to practice being kind. She often doesn’t want to participate in group activities, but after attending camp last summer, she is now one of the first ones to jump into a group game. My daughter has also learned some basic skills on how to care for farm animals. She knows that they need water, food and shelter and how to ensure those needs are met.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The instructors are wonderful. They took the time to help my daughter with her individual fears and anxiety. They have helped her with her communication skills and how to express how she feels. The instructors are so knowledgeable and kind. We received multiple communications by email leading up to camp with details, what to bring, what to expect. They also made sure to take time to speak with each parent at drop offs and pickups. We felt very welcomed. The managers were available to chat about any concerns and their contact information was easy to find. They were very attentive to our needs.

(5) Advice and tips

I would highly recommend this camp to anyone looking for a place to give their child confidence through play. Wildflower helped us to feel safe, helped our daughter to feel safe in being herself. The only advice I would give is to give the instructors as much information about your child as possible so they can adjust the activities to their needs. For example: I let them know my daughter is scared to do new things. So they made sure to help her process the fears and how to overcome them.
