AI for Coding (6th-8th Graders)

This 5-day AI Coding Camp introduces students to the power of Artificial Intelligence through ChatGPT, guiding them to learn and build coding projects using one of three popular languages — JavaScript, Java, or Python. The camp blends foundational programming lessons with real-world AI assistance to make coding fun, interactive, and personalized.

On Day 1, students explore how ChatGPT can be used as a learning companion. Through interactive Q&A sessions, they ask ChatGPT to explain coding concepts, generate simple examples, and even write “Hello World” programs. This hands-on exposure helps them understand AI’s potential in coding education.

Next, students choose their preferred language and begin learning its basics. Depending on their selection, they may build a simple web page using JavaScript, a console-based input/output program in Java, or a basic script in Python.

As the week progresses, students use ChatGPT to build projects like calculators, applying logic and problem-solving while using AI for debugging and optimization. They are encouraged to personalize their projects by adding creative features such as a calculation history or improved user experience.

An interactive debugging contest follows, where students fix buggy code using ChatGPT’s guidance and reflect on how AI supports their learning.

Finally, during the Project Showcase, each student presents a personalized project, explaining their coding journey and how ChatGPT helped them think, code, and problem-solve like a developer.

By the end, they gain strong coding foundations and real-world AI experience.
