Ben Mills, Owner-Head Coach
12 years basketball skill specialist, Certified with Positive Coaching Alliance, PTS-CanFitPro, Sports Enhancement Strength Coach
My message to all parents and athletes is this. You will get better, You will have fun getting better. You will be coached and trained by highly skilled and passionate trainers who have a genuine interest in your athlete and their time. Through small group training your athlete will receive the attention, quality repetition and immediate feedback to propel their skills and abilities ALEVELUP!!
I have known Ben Mills for over five years and have also had the honour of learning and working with him both on and off the court. This letter serves as a testimony to the quality of Ben’s character, work ethic and professionalism, within our community, our school and with me personally.
As Director of Athletics at The Sterling Hall School, I understand the importance of commitment and dedication from our coaches. Since day one, Ben has exemplified and modelled these positive character traits with our faculty, students and parents. From the simple things of showing up before anyone else to practice, to coming thoroughly prepared with solid planning, through to the more intangible facets of demonstrating integrity and calmness - the “character building qualities” that make an athlete great!
Ben’s dedication to the success of his teams combined with his skill to inspire and lead makes him a great contributor to the sport of basketball. Moreover, as head coach and owner of the Company “A Level Up”, he teaches athletes from beginner to advanced and challenges them to reach their goals. “A Level Up” focuses on basketball fundamentals, mentorship and teamwork to nurture and assist athletes to achieve their full potential.
For your information, I have been teaching within the Conference of Independent School’s for over 15 years and was also a former member of the Canadian Olympic Team. I would not hesitate to hire Ben for any coaching position here at Sterling Hall.
I have known Ben Mills professionally for ten years, most recently as the owner and operator of
‘ALevelUp’ basketball training.
I reached out to Ben as I was looking for a camp programme to run at our school during our
spring break. Ben enthusiastically came to the school in advance to meet the kids and provide a
demonstration of what they would learn at Basketball Camp. He also interacted well with
parents, providing quick and immediate feedback to their questions.
Ben was flexible with our students and they all enjoyed the programming immensely. I have
had requests for him to return as children of all ages loved his enthusiasm for the programme
and sport in general. My own children also participated in the programme and loved the drills
and activities. Both saw good skill progression in a short period of time.
Ben and his staff were on time, respectful of school space, interacted with parents and staff
professionally, and were timely in all communications.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
AlevelUP Basketball Training
To Whom It May Concern,
I am delighted to write a statement in support of Ben Mills and his service to St Mildred’s-Lightbourn School through his company AlevelUp Basketball Training.
Ben is hard working, committed, reliable, passionate and incredibly inspiring. He brings his calm and knowledgeable approach to every group he works with; whether it is leading PHE students through basketball activities and drills, the Junior School Under 12 team through plays and understanding of the game or the Senior team to consecutive CISAA Championships,
Ben’s sessions and practices are well structured and effective. His communication and rapport with the athletes is outstanding and his passion for the game is contagious.
Ben has had many accomplishments and involvement in our school community. The feedback from the teacher coaches, the athletes, parents and School Leadership team is always consistent. People describe Ben as an exceptional leader, role model and coach.
Over the years, I have watched Ben interact, coach, positively impact and mentor countless students and athletes. His enthusiasm, drive to succeed and exceptional work ethic make him contagious to be around and incredibly memorable.
Ben is committed to personal growth and continuous improvement and I’m confident the qualities that I have been witness to will make Ben a great addition, coach or leader to any team.
