Who are you as an organization?
The COC is thrilled to launch Summer Music Camps! Young artists are immersed in a world of music & performing arts. Participants work with teaching artists to hone creative skills, explore singing, composition, drama, & design. Campers are supported in a creative & non-competitive environment. Parents will have a chance to attend a final showcase on the last day of the program.
What do you do differently or uniquely well?
"What sets us apart: The COC is the only Canadian opera company in the country with a roster of Teaching Artists. This elite roster of highly trained Artists collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to provide interactive, engaging programming and artistic support; through integrated musical, visual and sensory components that are tailored to the needs, goals and expectations in each week of camp."
Who are your staff and counsellors?
"The COC regards equity and diversity as an integral part of artistic excellence and is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for all. We are dedicated to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the community in which we live and serve. The COC seeks staff members who embrace values of equity, anti-racism and inclusion.
Each member of staff is trained in our organization's program policies and procedures in addition to our health and safety protocols prior to the camp's commencement.
Our principal job titles include:
Summer Camps Program Manager
Summer Camps Program Coordinator
Voice Specialist
Music Specialist
Design Specialist

There will be signage at the front entry notifying patrons of this policy.
Any person exhibiting any symptoms should not enter the facility and notify camps staff immediately. Any person exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms in the facility will be placed in isolation (in a secluded room) until they are able to leave the facility (with a parent/guardian the case of persons under the age of majority).

The COC is the largest opera company in Canada and one of the foremost companies in North America in terms of size, breadth, quality, and community outreach. There is a dedication to creative and accessible programming, and the children’s programs reflect that. The programs are able to draw on a broad range of resources, from professional instructors, performers and professionals, to facilities that are literally unequalled in the country. The foundational belief of the company, if not expressed in exactly these terms, is that opera is for everyone and that, from sets to stage work, can address a range of creative skills and talents in an integrated and collaborative way. The environment of the company itself is a principle draw—children who enrol enter an authentic arts environment, meeting and learning from mentors and peers who share their passions and interests. They also participate in one of the primary arts organizations of the city. For some children, perhaps most, it's a transformative experience.
