These camps, at least in some circles, can seem like one of the city’s best kept secrets. Which is too bad, because they are yet another thing that make the city so unique. Operating out of five signature locations, including the Toronto Island Park, these camps allow kids to experience traditional camping, including forests and trees, without ever leaving the city. Camp NAORCA, one of the sites, is comprised of 55 acres of conservation land, entirely accessible by public transit, given the regular busses that serve the site from points throughout the city. The others, to varying degrees, have similar profiles: nature close at hand. For families, these camps offer exceptional programming for kids from 5 to 15, allowing them to grow a sense of independence, confidence, and belonging within a group of like-minded peers. They also offer a unique opportunity for young people to further experience the breadth of environments and communities that help make Toronto the vibrant place that it is.
