This year, QQ is offering a new stream of online Literature-Elective Courses for students to take. The Literature-Elective Courses gives students the opportunity to delve into various types of literature (short stories, poems, novels, plays, etc.), gaining extensive practice, newfound knowledge and strategies in relation to the following areas: analytical and critical thinking skills, essay writing, quote analysis, reading comprehension practice, and vocabulary building. As students progress through these courses, it is the goal that students will attain a profound literary background (gaining exposure and in-depth insight to classic, well-known literary works) and will develop exemplary reading, writing, and analytical skills. In relation to QQ’s Core Courses (Novice, Intermediate, Proficient), the Literature-Elective Courses are intended to complement the extensive writing and public skills gained in these fundamental courses through discussing and analyzing various literary works.
Lit 100: The Basics of Understanding Literature (Grades 4 - 7)
12-week Course
Introduction to essay writing: Review and practice of fundamental essay components, simple and complex paragraph structure, complex sentence structure.
In-depth study of literary works (novel and short stories) to uncover key narrative elements and their connection to the content.
Lit 200: The Basics of Literary Analysis (Grades 8 -11)
12-week Course
Introduction of formal essay writing (1200 words), review of fundamental essay components, and vocabulary building.
In-depth study of literary works to uncover key narrative elements and the complex, underlying meaning in content. Introduction to connecting content-context.
Introduction to in-depth poetry analysis skills (literary devices and structural elements).
Introduction to in-depth quote analysis and integration in paragraph writing, short answer questions and essay writing.
Lit 300: Unraveling the Works of Shakespeare (Grades 7-11)
25-week Course
Development and advancement of formal essay writing skills (1500 words).
In-depth study of literary works to uncover the key narrative elements and the use of medium, writing structure and poetic devices. Extensive investigation of content-context relationships and contemporary connections.
Refining poetry analysis skills gained from LIT200.
Refining in-depth quote analysis and integration in paragraph writing, short answer questions and essay writing gained from LIT200.
