Students will come to the University of Toronto – St George campus for a week-long day camp. Throughout the week, students will explore various mathematical topics in a fun, interactive, and hands-on way. Each group has a different focus.
Course Description: Get ready to dive into the exciting world of sports through math! In this hands-on program, campers will become “Math Olympians” as they explore measurement, data collection, probability, problem-solving, and more through fun sports-related challenges. Throughout the week, campers will turn into champions in math as they witness how math is used by athletes, coaches, and referees every day!
Course Description: Calling all animal lovers to the Paws & Proportions Pet Sanctuary! In this immersive camp campers will become sanctuary directors, using multiplication to plan feeding schedules, as well as area and perimeter to design animal habitats. Through outdoor exploration and creative crafting, campers will manage a budget and track data for their furry friends, culminating in a "Grand Opening Gala" for parents on the final day.
Course Description: This camp covers topics in discrete mathematics that are needed for theoretical computer science. Campers will have a formal introduction to the study of mathematical logic, number representations such as binary, and will also learn about the physics behind electric circuits. Campers will strengthen their skills in algebra, combinatorics, probability and more through hands-on learning and activities. Please note that there will be no coding in this camp.
Course Description: In this program, campers will learn about the clever step-by-step strategies that computers use to solve complex problems efficiently. Through hands-on activities campers will explore a rich variety of mathematical algorithms, from sorting strategies and graph search techniques to cryptography, voting systems, and even artificial intelligence. Along the way, they'll solve mazes using breadth-first and depth-first search, crack codes with classical ciphers, and wrestle with deceptively tricky problems. The week culminates in the Algorithm Olympics: a team-based series of challenges carefully designed to reward algorithmic thinking, strategy, and creativity.
Course Description: Out of the astronomical number of planets outside our solar system, which ones could realistically support life? While we can't travel to distant planets (yet), we can predict points of interest through observations and mathematical modelling! In this program, campers will investigate with our current technology on Earth how we can assess the habitability of exoplanets using these mathematical models drawn from modern astronomy and astrophysics.
Course Description: In this program, campers will explore how mathematics helps us understand patterns, solve problems, and think creatively about the world. Campers will apply the mathematical concepts of graph theory and number theory to hands-on projects such as an Egg Drop challenge and a bridge-building project. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s inventions, as a final project campers will investigate a topic of their own interest by researching underlying mathematical concepts and building a hands-on representation, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and confidence in mathematics.
Course Description: In this hands‑on financial literacy program, campers will learn how money really works by exploring budgeting, saving, investing, credit, taxes, stocks, interest, and real‑world decision‑making. Through interactive activities, simulations, and practical scenarios, campers will strengthen their skills in algebraic modelling, functions, graphing, numeracy and problem solving.
