Social development. This fun activity gets kids moving and interacting with kitchen appliances, ingredients, and food products. At camp, they do this with counselors and with each other. Through this, they develop confidence. Baking and cooking are self-directed activities, in which kids learn how to follow directions, of course, and learn some rudiments of creative problem-solving. See how one camper, Erick, found time at cooking camp helped him become more independent and learn lessons in self-regulation.
Coordination improvement and cognitive growth. Working with mixers, chopping, folding, and spreading, are all fine motor skills that grow, when kids have kitchen time. As they work, they also encounter puzzles and problems that they get to solve through creativity. Counting and measuring also tease the brain.
Do something you enjoy. Giving kids an opportunity to master food creation is a good step in self-discovery. They learn what they like about it, and for some, this may be an important part of their personal development.
Let’s explore other ways in which camps can help them discover who they are and what they like.
Cooking camp is an ideal way for kids to learn cooking techniques and explore cuisine culture. They get hands-on practice with cooking utensils, appliances, while learning lessons in safety, cooperation, and creativity.
Cooking class after school is a great way to grow more skills after school or on weekends. These programs keep kids off screens and encourage practical learning.
Baking class after school are another way to explore the culinary arts. These are shorter in duration, of course, letting kids get a taste of time by the oven.
