    Director's Message

    PreMedSKL, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Founder

    Dear Students and Families,

When I founded PreMedSKL, my goal was simple: to give high school students a meaningful and realistic introduction to medicine. Students are often told to “just focus on getting good grades.” While academics matter, medicine is far more than marks. Over the years, I have seen many students with straight A+ averages and exceptional MCAT scores not gain admission to medical school. The reality is that schools are looking for something deeper — maturity, resilience, empathy, communication skills, and the ability to think critically under pressure. Throughout my career as a clinician-scientist and eye surgeon, I have seen how powerful structured mentorship can be. PreMedSKL was built to bring that mentorship — adapted for high school students — into a supportive and intellectually rigorous environment. In our program, students do not simply learn about medicine; they learn how to think like a doctor. Through real clinical cases, guided discussion, and the SOAP framework, they begin developing clinical reasoning, empathy, and professional communication. And through mentorship by outstanding medical students, residents, and physicians who model integrity, curiosity, and compassion. Medicine is a demanding path. It requires discipline, humility, and a deep respect for patients. At PreMedSKL, we emphasize rigor, integrity, and compassion — preparing students not just for applications, but for the responsibility of caring for others. If your child is genuinely curious about medicine and ready to challenge themselves, I warmly invite them to join us this summer.

    Sincerely,

Sanjay Sharma, MD, MSc (Epid), FRCSC
