Here’s a brief look at what kids learn in after-school writing classes. Consult each program above for accurate details of what they learn there.
Creative writing. Creative writing classes help curious students exercise their imaginations. Children will learn to write short stories, poems, flash fiction, creative essays, and more in class. Kids will also be given the freedom to explore genres that excite them, including forms as diverse as fantasy, adventure, or drama, etc. They’ll broaden their range as writers.
Academic writing. In classes focused on this area, children will learn to write different types of essays in order to argue, persuade, or educate a reader. Grammar and punctuation. The first step to writing polished and professional prose is having correct grammar and punctuation. Writing process. The writing process consists of brainstorming, drafting, and editing. As they progress through this process in a creative writing class, children internalize a routine they adapt to their learning style.
