Pat Gills, Executive Director
After graduating from the University of Toronto I went to England for a year and a half and studied to become a riding instructor. I've ridden all my life and I started Harrogate Hills Riding School in 1985. In the past thirty years, my confidence in the ability of horses to empower young people has never wavered. So many of our former students have excelled in many different walks of life and all of those successful young people remember fondly their experiences at Harrogate. They acknowledge that to some extent it is through working with the horses that they learned self-discipline and self-awareness. The riding tested their perseverance and empathy and even just handling the horses taught them to take on many of the attributes of a leader. As we prepare for our 30th summer we look forward to meeting a new group of young people and once again having the opportunity to share our passion for what horses can teach us.
