The Ottawa River Canoe Club believes in delivering excellent quality and safe programming to all participants who take part in an ORCC program. As such ORCC follows the recommendations laid out in the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development Plan (http://canoekayak.ca/long-termathlete-development/), and has taken the following steps to make sure we adhere to the highest standards.
Coaching:
- All coaches must meet minimum certification requirements as outlined in our Code of Safety
- All paid coaches must also be First Aid, Level C CPR, and AED certified.
- All paid coaches, volunteer coaches and board of director’s members must have a Police Records Check completed. ï‚· Anyone who drives a motor boat must have their Ontario Pleasure Craft Operators Card
- Coaching applicants are required to go through a hiring process that includes applying for publicly posted jobs with a resume and cover letter, and then going through an interview process. This is to ensure we always have the best candidates for the job.
Leadership: In addition to the policies listed above, the paid and volunteer coaching staff is led by a full time, professional head coach. He has 16 years coaching experience, is level 3 certified in Sprint Canoe Kayak by the CAC and a Chartered Professional Coach with Coaches of Canada. He also holds the Fundamental Movement Skills Community Leader certification. Before joining the Ottawa River Canoe Club he was the Head Coach for the Ontario Canoe and Kayak Team, and led provincial teams at the 2009 and 2013 Canada Summer Games. He was also a member of the Team Canada Coaching staff for the 2009 Junior Worlds and the 2006 Pan American Canoe Championships. He is a course conductor and evaluator in the NCCP for the Entry Level Competitive Coach Program and Community Coach Program and was the coordinator and author of the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development Project. Feedback: At the end of every program participants are given the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback through a survey. The Head Coach and Program Director from the Board of Directors reviews the feedback and make changes to programs where necessary to make sure our programs are always high quality and meeting the needs of our members.
