Toronto School of Art shares a fun series of short videos!

Toronto School of Art has been having fun making short videos with a range of materials used in courses for Youth Studio and Summer Art Camps, as well as courses for adults. Click on the video links below for a glimpse of hands-on approches TSA features in their programming.

Summer 2014 is open for registration! Sign your tween or teen up for one or more of Toronto School of Art's fun, engaging summer art camps. The Summer Term term runs July 2 - August 26. There are spots left in the following camps:

 

691 Mix it up: Drawing, Collage, and Mixed Media (Ages 10-13)

This fun and challenging course for 10 - 13 year-olds offers young artists an exciting opportunity to expand their drawing skills and to explore painting and mixed media collage. Each class is active hands-on experience of drawing, collage and mixed media, as well as colour mixing basics and exploring paint. The classes will also investigate expressive and experimental mark making and drawing from the imagination. Students will work with a wide variety of drawing and paint media, such as charcoal, ink and acrylic paint and well as found imagery for collage. In addition, students will explore a wide range of subjects and themes in our work such as favourite objects and toys, flowers, foliage and natural specimens, action and gesture drawing, landscape and gardens and our own weird and wonderful made up creatures and worlds!

Date: July 7 to 11 | Time: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm

692 Illustration and Cartooning Techniques (Ages 10-13)

Discover the exciting world of illustration and cartooning! Learn how to design and illustrate comic or adventure characters plus develop dynamic cartoon storyboards. Illustrating stories will also be covered and many drawing and rendering techniques will be demonstrated.

Date: July 28 to August 1 | Time: Monday to Friday 10 am to 4 pm

694 Sketch and Sculpt (Ages 10 -13)

This course is designed for 10 - 13 year-olds and will offer a variety of materials (wood, paper, wire, clay etc.) to build, construct and sculpt 3-dimensional objects, sculptures and masks. The process of idea finding as well as documenting the finished art work will be done through sketching and drawing using various media(charcoal. ink, markers etc.)  including working in a sketchbook. Through demonstrations and examples the students will learn a variety of techniques as well as historic and contemporary context.

Date: August 11 to 15 | Time: Monday to Friday 10 am to 4 pm

695 Painting Explorations (Ages 10-13)

Young artists will hone their observational painting and drawing skills while also considering the creative choices involved in making an artwork. All styles of painting and drawing, whether abstract or realistic, require close observation as well as creative choice making. Young artists will use observation as a starting point for abstraction and various experimental and imaginative approaches while also learning keys to representational drawing. Students are encouraged to push projects in their own directions and will experiment with a wide range of materials including acrylic, watercolor, collage, scratchboard, ink painting, charcoal, and other drawing materials. The course includes a trip to the Art Gallery of Ontario.

729 Youth Studio (ages 14-17)

This program allows students ages 14 -17 years old to explore their imagination with a hands on approach in traditional and contemporary methods and ultimately find their own voice through the arts. Through (life) drawing, painting, sculpture/object making collage, assemblage, mixed media students learn technical skills, knowledge of contemporary visual arts and art history, and are encouraged to develop their own personal creative process. Field trips to museums and galleries as well as exhibition and performance opportunities are also an integral part of the program.

Date: July 7 - 11 & July 14 - 18

Time: Week 1 - Monday to Thursday 10 am - 4 pm & Friday 10 am - 1 pm

          Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 10 am - 4 pm & Friday 10 am - 1 pm
