INTRODUCTORY TO INTERMEDIATE LEVELS

Youth Studio 923 is a visual art course designed for 10-13 year olds. Through drawing, painting, printing, collage, and 3-dimensional work students will be introduced to various techniques and media in order to develop their own artistic language and expression. This includes drawing (one life drawing session with a clothed model) and painting from observation and imagination exploring line, shape, texture, perspective and composition as well as preparing surfaces and colour mixing. Collage, assemblage, and 3-dimensional explorations will include various materials including paper, wire, wood, found objects and natural elements. We will also explore mono printing, creating stamps and designing textures and patterns. The students will be introduced to artists throughout history including contemporary artists in connection with their projects and will also go on field trips to museums and/or galleries to see and discuss the art work on site.

921 Youth Studio is a twelve-week visual art program designed primarily for teens (ages 14-17). Through (life) drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performance, digital and mixed media, students learn technical skills, knowledge of contemporary visual arts and art history, and are encouraged to develop their own personal creative process.
Hands-on presentations of various techniques including image transfers, preparation of painting and drawing surfaces, 3-dimensional building techniques, as well as presentations of artists/movements/collections will guide the students to realize their ideas and deepen their understanding of the importance of art in society. Field trips to museums and galleries as well as exhibition and performance opportunities are also an integral part of the program.
