What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"Teen Ranch specializes in horses, hockey, and outdoor adventure camp programs. Our experience and expertise of over 50 years offers campers an amazing opportunity to grow in their sport of choice no matter their starting ability and try new things. The added benefit of being a Christian Camp offers youth a well-balanced physical, practical, and non-denominational spiritual program. Often healthy, life-long friendships are forged. Frequently we hear campers remark that camp was the best week of their lives. "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Our staff and counsellors are a diverse group of people who deeply value the youth coming and what camp offers them, believing that each individual is worth the investment of time and energy that camp involves! Many are past campers with a strong connection to this camp. All staff bring new experiences and expertise and are committed to the growth, safety and well-being of each camper that attends. "

The Our Kids review of Teen Ranch

    our take

When a camp promotes that kids have the best weeks of their lives, and can back it up with over 55 years of experience, you want to believe it. Teen Ranch delivers. With a huge variety of activities including horseback riding and hockey, kids are constantly engaged and challenged. What’s unique is this camp is mainly outdoors, letting kids get that much-needed fresh air after a school year spent in a classroom. The grounds and facilities are extensive, with four-season buildings and accommodations and an Olympic-size arena that has been used by NHL teams. The staff and counselors are super friendly and make a point to encourage kids and get to know them well. Friendships are easily made and kids keep in touch after camp is done and even once the kids are grown. Teen Ranch is a camp where kids can try new things, gain new memories, and develop skills that they never would have at home all summer.

Staff is all about the kids, and several staff members onsite to ensure safety of campers. Visitors are always greeted and never left feeling lost on the huge property. The cabins are clean and modern, the English riders are trained by very knowledgeable and experienced instructors that are very detailed in perfecting your riding. Wished they would offer longer English riding hours per day, but there are camps that dedicate exclusively to this type of riding and provide more hours. There are many activities to keep your child busy for the whole week of camp. From the huge arena ice skating, swimming, archery etc. Many repeat campers and my daughter loved it ... Show More

    5-star rating!

I have recently visited Teen Ranch for my third time as a supervising teacher, and I am delighted to share that all my experiences have been amazing. Of the three visits, two took place during the winter and I want to share how well planned, engaging, and experienced filled the outdoor events were. There is a great variety of activities for various outdoor climates such as horse riding, skating, snowshoeing, archery, the big swing, etc. Agatha (Aggie) coordinates and leads the programming. She does an amazing job organizing the day for students filled with a variety of engaging activities where the students are experiencing a great variety of outdoor experiences throughout the day. I want to add that Aggie has a great passion about outdoor education and to have a leader like Aggie lead the way for a group of students and teachers is amazing as she has a great way of captivating the students and leading them to their next part of the day whether its their next meal or activity. I spent all three of my visits in the carriage house, I want to say that it is a great clean accommodation for the students and staff with two floors of accommodations and a common room upstairs for activities. Teen Ranch also has an amazing and very friendly kitchen staff that always cook up great food, during my stays I got to enjoy the breakfast lunch dinner as well as the evening snack and I will emphasize that no one will go hungry while visiting Teen Ranch. Teen Ranch, I want to thank you for being an inspiring place that educates many people everyday on outdoor education and playing a key role in instilling key values within our students and all that come to visit. I recommend any that any intermediate group of students as well as high school groups come visit Teen Ranch. If you are someone in charge of a group and want to coordinate a good team building event, I would highly suggest you contact Teen Ranch if they are able to accommodate your group ... Show More

    Changed my whole life

I started volunteering at Teen Ranch when I was 14. I worked in the kitchen and eventually did bunkhouse leading of kids that came to camp. The way Teen Ranch is run not only makes it the most fun for the kids but also taught me so much about being a leader, learning more about God, and finding friends I still have today that encourage me. I will definitely send my kids here! ... Show More

Students/campers are supervised by their teachers/bunkhouse leaders either from an adjacent bunk house or a separate room so that supervision is always available for the guests.

    Are meals provided? Yes

Is Teen Ranch technology free? Yes Not only can expensive cell phones and other electronics be lost or stolen, but their usage can interfere with a child’s overall positive experience at camp. A camper that spends excessive time immersed in technology or communications, does so at the expense of getting to know fellow campers and bunkhouse leaders, missing out on the beautiful surroundings or going without sleep. Constant contact with home only worsens any feelings of homesickness and may sadly result in a camper’s stay being cut short. With the director’s permission, campers are permitted to use TR public phones anytime from Wednesday night on. This is the ‘magical’ day for helping a homesick camper (or kid sick parent) have a successful week.

    Stories

    • More than a Ranch, More than just Teens

If you are new to Teen Ranch or have never heard about us here is an introduction of who we are and what we do.

In 1961, Mel Stevens went to Australia with his first wife, Janet, and baby boy, Tim along with four other couples from a gospel music group to start Teen Ranch Australia. Mel and Janet directed the camp there drawing no wage for six years before returning to Canada to start a Teen Ranch Canada. With 10 dollars in their pockets, two more children and faith in God’s leading and proven goodness, the Lord provided. The Lord continued to be faithful in Mel's life when Janet got cancer and eventually passed away at the age of 49. In 1985 Mel remarried to his now wife Betty. They both continue to live happily on site at Teen Ranch Canada.

What you see and experience here today is a result of the faithfulness and obedience of this couple and their family to start Teen Ranch Canada which has been operating for over 45 years. The first summer camp started in 1967 with 6 kids and has now grown to 130 per week. There are also now Teen Ranches in Scotland, France, Romania, Poland, Kenya and Indonesia.

Besides summer camps, Teen Ranch is host to weekly school groups, church groups, business people, soccer and hockey teams - local as well as Olympic, International and NHL teams. Our summer camps offer horse, hockey, soccer, BMX, and extreme camps

This place is here for you to enjoy and we trust you will sense God’s presence and goodness while you are here. So if you've never heard of us or been, feel free to contact us and book a tour! We would love to connect with you.

    • Our Staff

At Teen Ranch we take the well-being of our guests very seriously and work hard to ensure that our staff provides a safe, fun and challenging experience for your children and youth to thrive in. Convinced that this begins with hiring the right staff, each summer applicant is hand-picked after going through our extensive selection and training process. Potential staff members commit themselves to be part of the vision of Teen Ranch in aiding in the development of youth physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Canadian applicants are then required to prove themselves first as weekend staff. International applicants are recommended through their home camp or church. Selected individuals are then invited to fill out an application package including three reference checks and volunteer screening check. New applicants complete a nine-part Bible study correspondence course. Riding instructors go through a vigorous four day evaluative training and certification with Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA). Each hired staff participates in five days of intense training including health and safety, Teen Ranch service standards, job specific training and solid Biblical teaching. We are convinced that God has used this process to bless us with outstanding, trained and qualified summer staff. Rest assured your children are in great hands!
