These qualities have made fencing a good youth sport. Fencing enhances sportsmanship, integrity that fuels the desire to excel in different fields of life. A fencer is able to make quick and strategic decision and has a better focus and level of concentration. Fencing can be played round the year, no matter if it is cold or raining outside. Fencing can be taken as a serious competitive sport, fitness regimen or a recreational hobby. As a combat sport, fencing calls on tremendous agility, reflexes, tactical smarts, discipline and hand-eye coordination. While physical ability is necessary for a fencer, it is the mental ability that enables participation from wide age group of people. Fondly referred to as “physical chess”, fencing is primarily a contest of mental agility that involves mind, body and spirit of the player. Regular interaction with other fencers and like minded people is encouraging social aspect of fencing.
