Rugby Schools

Find a list of schools

High school rugby programs bring out the best in each athlete and enable them to apply their athletic abilities to this fast-paced and swift game. Students are also starting to recognize the opportunities available to them to compete on behalf of their province and even on the international stage. Many high schools' rugby programs offer scholarships to students who play rugby and kids are encouraged to participate in matches and tournaments.

Many top schools for rugby also have excellent academic programs - academics and athletics go hand in hand atthese schools. All pupils are actively encouraged to develop individual skills and talents. Sports like rugby enhance a student's fitness level and also help in otehr areas such as leadership development, encouraging team spirit andmore. Rugby has a long history in Canada dating back to the 1860's. Today, rugby is well represented across the nation and is played by a large number of young men and women. Rugby schools enable students to compete both recreationally and internationally and the rugby programs at schools help them to learn this sport at a basic and advanced level.

Participate in rugby's growth

Rugby's scrums, rucks and mauls are very popular among student players. The tremendous growth of the sport is seen in private secondary schools. Rugby has traditionally been considered a boys' sport but many girls are starting to become involved in rugby today. In fact, the Canadian women's rugby team was placed sixth at the most recent World Cup while the national male rugby team is currently ranked 15th. Rugby is a contact sport, and there are no modified rules for girls like there are with hockey.

Rugby programs in schools promote the game of rugby as well as improve the standard of play. This sport fosters sportsmanship and fair play. League competitions, tournaments and tours as well as other related activities and programs are also included in Rugby schools.
