In the professional learning environment created by programs listed above, kids acquire a variety of skills that make them better artists. Here’s a brief look at skills you can acquire and develop:
Comic art. Kids learn to create characters and to tell stories through comics. This is included in the curriculum of numerous drawing classes for kids listed above, although there are some that focus entirely on this art (see below).
Animation. A number of classes listed above, offer training in or a focus on animation. These classes will have a longer run that will allow students to immerse themselves in a long project.
Software. Many classes expose students to programs like Adobe Photoshop, allowing them to work with those programs and develop skills that expand their creative repertoire.
Basic visual arts skills. Cartoons, animations, sketches, and paintings all use the same key visual arts techniques of composition, etc. Classes teach placement, shading, perspective, and contouring. These skills apply to other art forms beyond drawing.
Self-expression. With the multiple media opportunities, classes allow kids to experiment with their unique self-expression. Organization skills. Although experimentation is encouraged in drawing classes, kids must be able to follow instructions and remain organized. Managing time, staying on task, and being obedient to general drawing rules are practiced in classes.
