Top Robotics camps for kids for 2023/2024

Zebra Robotics
Zebra robotics has been a great learning environment. They have created opportunities for me I could not have imagined.

Zebra Robotics offers robotics and coding after-school, weekend, and summer camp classes for students from Grade 2 to 12.

Robotics camps help your young engineer develop his or her interest, skills and knowledge in this discipline and related technology. Robotics kids' camps across the provinces encourage problem-solving skills, acquisition of programming languages, and other related skills. Find camps that offer an intensive robotics curriculum listed below. Further down the page are camps that feature some robotics activities among a broader curriculum, and further below that are more details for parents.  Read more

    Robotics camps near you

Robotics summer camps are an excellent summer learning option for middle school and high school students who intend to pursue a career in science and engineering. You can use our advanced search to discover camps in your city or region, including the following selections:

Search robotics camps in ANY CITY

    More than just summer camp

For those deeply interested in robotics, there are ways to engage longer term in learning robotics, beyond summer sessions. This includes programs that run year round and overnight camps that offer a deep immersion in this technology. Use our site to find different options below.

    Search all ROBOTICS CAMPS

You might also like these other camps

Robotics is part of an ever-increasing selection of specializations found among education and technology camps. And all of these options are fascinating and fun! Kids interested in robotics should also check out the following:

Engineering camps offer more in-depth instruction in engineering, a critical aspect of robotics, certainly, but also a much broader field, with diverse applications.

Lego camps are ideal for younger kids who love hands-on play, and are not quite ready to work with series circuits and complex electronics.

Math camps are ideal for kids interested in the functions underlying robotics and related technologies.

Makerspace camps are similar to robotics in that they focus on projects with a practical application but these are often much broader and more diversely creative in their curriculum.

Minecraft camps (like LEGO) are ideal for younger kids, especially those who can't get enough of this creative building game.

Coding camps and classes are ideal for teens and older kids who are interested in the broader world of coding.

STEAM camps' broad curriculum combines science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. A number of these disciplines are closely related to robotics but STEAM curriculum is more inclusive and even holistic.

STEM camps focus on the approach to learning that combines science, tech, engineering and math.

    Why go to robotics camp?

In a camp environment, you can work in teams, learn from others and meet other kids who share your enthusiasm for robotics and related technologies.

    • Kids can compete in fun, real-world challenges like robo-soccer, obstacle courses, capture-the-flag, tag, maze solving, and more.
    • Programming at these camps fosters one-of-a-kind interactive learning. Camp creates a uniquely free environment, where the less intrusive structure opens potential for creativity. You might say that unlike anything else, camp combines informational with informal.
    • Robotics for kids and teens exposes them to real world applications across all STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) concepts through an enjoyable learning process.
    • Experienced engineers lead camp classes and programs, bringing real-world experience to the camp experience, explaining practical applications and sharing a knowledge of the evolving world of robot programming.

Take a full look at the question, "Why should I send my child to summer camp?

What programming languages and skills are taught in robotics camps?

An overview of the variety of languages, tools and skills taught by camps listed at ourkids.net. Not all camps offer these, and curriculum varies widely from one camp to the next. This is a survey, so consult camp listings to learn the specifics of each program:

    • Many camps use the VEX® Robotics Design System, a user-friendly and powerful tool. This is used in major regional and national robotics competitions, as well as in many high school and university-level robotics classes. Primary programs used by a number of camps include LEGO WEDO (for ages 5 plus), LEGO Mindstorms EV3 (for ages 9 and up) and Arduino, for kids 14 and older. Still other camps offer advanced programming languages include C#, Java, Python.
    • Most robotics camps will include the design and building of robots that perform specific functions. You might also learn to write algorithms for robots to follow, to complete tasks or perform basic functions.

    Career trajectories in robotics

Robotics is an exciting area of study, with a big future in terms of job opportunities. Attending camps focused on robotics and related STEM curricula is a worthwhile stepping stone for kids and teens who are career-focused. Some career paths you might pursue that are directly related to robotics would be:

    • Robotics engineers are responsible for creating and designing robots and robotic systems. This is a high paying career, with a median salary of $87,370 in 2019. Employment of mechanical engineers is projected to grow 4 percent through 2028.
    • Robotics technicians operate, test, and maintain unmanned, automated, robotic, or electromechanical equipment. In 2019, the median salary was $57,790. This field is expected to show little or no change in job outlook through 2018.
    • Software developer is ancillary to an interest in robotics, but many kids fascinated by robotics will also have an interest in this lucrative field. The median salary in 2019 was $105,590. In addition, job growth in this area outpaces the average, with an expected increase in demand of 21% through 2018.

Questions parents should ask robotics camps

When choosing a robotics camp, parents will be concerned about more than just the camp curriculum and location. Here’s a brief glance at some other questions you might ask camps:

    • What programming or coding (WeDo, Arduino, VEX, etc., depending on your advancement) are expected prerequisites for the session you’re enrolling in?
    • What programming languages will they be learning in the course of the session?
    • What are some of the accomplishments and related projects by camp instructors or providers?
    • What is the highest level of education achieved by camp and session leaders?
    • What safety precautions does the camp provide in relation to the robotics or other mechanical technologies used in the camp?

The following are some more general questions that parents should ask about any camp:

    • What is the ratio of leaders and counselors to kids and teens? You may also want to find out how campers are grouped and who your child(ren)’s group leader will be.
    • Does the camp have any policies about food, related to allergies or special diets, etc?
    • When is the daily pickup and dropoff, and how rigidly are parents expected to follow these times?
    • What are kids expected to bring? And what will they take home from the camp?

Those are just a few questions you should be mindful of.

Be sure you've found the best camp

Camp might seem like a simple decision, based on programming, location and availability. But wait! If you look around at the breadth of options, you can be sure you find the best robotics camp for your son or daughter.  The best place to start is the Our Kids Camp Expo held every February in Toronto. You’ll find many related camps there, as well as interactive activities, learning sessions and more. It’s the ideal way to find the best fit for your child.
