Special Needs Day Schools

Private special needs day schools are a tremendous chance for your child to receive an excellent education

Find a list of schools

Private special needs day schools are a tremendous chance for your child to receive an excellent education.

Indeed, private schools offer small class sizes, numerous opportunities for extra-curricular activities, and, generally, well-trained instructors who have intimate knowledge about particular special needs or learning disabilities.

Why should I choose a day school?

Day schools have many benefits, especially for students with special needs. Here are some them:

  • Parental involvement: If your child lives with you, you could observe many of his or her work habits and, more broadly, behavioural patterns. School is certainly not the only institution in which your kid may develop fixable academic issues. Therefore, his or her education should be a collaborative effort between you and the private school instructors, for both parties could glean a more complete profile of the child through such dialogue.

  • Helping your child: While there should be some independent elements to your child's education, he or she may need some help with homework or merely motivating himself or herself to do it. Because day school students live at home, you will have this chance to assist your child whenever he or she may need it.

  • Being part of the school community: Since a day school will be close to your home, you may choose to involve yourself in the school community. In so doing, you will not only feel part of the school, but will also be able to talk with other parents who may share the same (or similar) issues as you do.

  • Fostering local ties: Students who attend day schools could build networks and thus find career opportunities in their own community. These connections are extremely important to students with special needs, for they often have difficulty interacting and finding jobs after they have graduated.

What are the advantages of private schools for students with special needs?

  • Limited class sizes allow instructors to pay really close attention to each child. Therefore, they will recognize which teaching styles your kid responds to and in which areas he or she may need improvement.
  • Extra help is almost always available!
  • The other "extra" (extracurricular activities) are also more diverse and well-organized at private institutions than they are at other types of schools.

Paying for Private Schools

Here are three quick tips to help you pay a private school's tuition

  1. Look for scholarships and bursaries. Be sure to begin this research process promptly, as many schools ask for applications as early as 16 months in advance of a student's time of enrolment.
  2. You may be eligible for a tax break if you send your child to a faith-based school (such as a Christian or Catholic school).
  3. Many corporations have charitable education funds, which you may use to help fund your child's tuition.
